hey guys,

once i pass the rwc im going to put the pedders back in the car... im just wondering, is changing the springs as simple as removing the struts and putting the new springs on then bolting the whole lot back in?

do you need a spring compressor?

anything else i should know before tackling it?

cheers!

Mat :)

not fun dude!

u will either need

2x spring compressors
or
a hydrolic press to compress the entire shock

u will also need a compressor / rattle gun (if using spring compressors) unless u like to turn a ratchet about 5 million times...

i would suggest, get somebody else to do it!
OR, try the rears first (easier) and tackle the fronts if u go well with the rears..

C'mon people it aint that hard.
Its not that bad.
Just aint fun.....

Take your time and give a good 2 hrs to do all shocks,if theres anything u need to do like bumpstops or upgrade shocks make sure you do it then.

And to put the stock springs in you will need a set of clamps, especially the fronts..
AND BE CAREFULL when you undo the top strut nut,aim the shock AWAY from you, preferably at a fence etc... :D :D

pffft.. piss easy job changing springs. Sometimes you dont even need spring compressors - just push down on the spring yourself with brute manly strength - something some of you sissy boys need to do to build up those muscles bahahaha  :p TIC

if you jack the car up high enough will you not need a spring compressor?

the rears aren't compressed that much are they?

it costs $150 to get all 4 swapped over which isn't too bad, but i wouldn't mind learning how to do it myself.

you gotta take them out of the car to change the springs

remove shocks from car
put spring compressors on
remove tophats
put new springs on, compress
put tophats back on
put shocks back in
get alignment

these cars are about as easy as it gets to pull suspension off..

rally car remember, shits designed to be ripped out of hte car in no time & it does come out in no time. i can do a spring swap in prolly 10 mins without rushing. dont it at least 30 times tho.

getting the shocks out of the car isn't an issue... its more the getting the springs onto the shocks that i'm concerned about.

have you found you need to use a spring compressor aswell, or just brute strength? :p

I will second this. The two of us Have pulled shocks and springs out of these things for the the last 3 years and no joke have done it at least 30 :!:

It ain to bad a job dude.
you will need compressors though if you are working with stock springs...make sure you dont fu*k the keyway on the tophat of the front shocks.

If you really wanna learn and really want to know how,PM me and ill write you up a step by step guide, done it that many time i wouldnt have to think while i write it.

God im a nice guy are"nt i 8)

might be easy if your new springs dont need compressing actually

just like previous, point the spring away from you, undo the bolt.. shoot it into a bucket if you could.. let it blast away, put the new spring on (if its really low it shouldn't need much compressing) then bolt on the nut..

but we are talking about stock springs here,
the evo stock springs are the scary stuff! even with a compressor it feels like something is gonna break!

I little trick before removing the shocks.
Jack the car up, put a besser brick or something similar under one wheel, lower the car so it compresses the spring, shimmy in inderneath and fit the spring compressors to the already compressed spring.
Jack the car back up, remove the shock and the start to disassemble it.

Similarly with assembling the new spring, if you have a hydraulic press, put the sping in it (make suitable plates for both ends so that the spring cannot fly out), compress the spring, whack the spring compressors on it, release the press and then reassemble the strut.
