I was at QR on a mid week sprint and was passing a caged V6 Commodore race car on the main straight when the computer cut the engine due to overboost
Back in the pits I checked the max boost on the recall button on the gauge and it read 25psi .The car is tuned by Rob Chapman for 20 psi.
Drove the rest of the sessions with a sharp eye on the gauge .
I initially thought that heat had cooked the hose to the gate as it had done quite some time ago and after jacking it up that is what I found so replaced the hose with new TS silicone hose and went for a drive still overboosting so replaced the boost T with a connector still overboosting bugger so under the car once more and tested the gate and air out the top port so diaphragm is stuffed,
Had a new part installed but decided to get the place I got it from to test it and was shown a video with the valve working and that it was fine. (I had installed a new gate in the meantime) They suggested that it may be too close to heat so had my engine builder turn up a 90mm long extension to get it even further away and a heat sleeve is now over the new hose to the gate as well.
A couple of weeks later I decided to do my own testing so fired up the compressor and adjusted the regulator to read app 18psi max and used a tyre gauge to connect the bottom port and a length of hose from the top port into a bucket of water and found a mini spa bath in the bucket so off to the same place that had given it a clean bill of health for more testing and they now say ti's faulty despite NEVER BEEN FITTED TO THE CAR. :fuuuuu:
Have sent the gate back to Turbosmart and await their reply.
PS the gate had only been on for less than 3000klm's
NOTE Turbosmart were kind enough to supply the replacement part at no cost despite it being outside the 12 month warranty.
