hey guys, just wondering if anyone knows about or has experianced a problem i have. Since i bought my car, the climate control unit in my dash has never 'fully' illuminated. Is this a fuse related thing or is it just burnt out? I noticed that when it is very dark out, i can faintly see the screen, but as for daytime, nothing, no light. I know a guy who has a evo for parts, but before i go out and buy the unit, just wondering if it's a relatively simple fix?

On the GSR's (CD5A chasis) there is a roller-knob thing
that adjusts the brightness of the speedo dislpay etc.
Could it be that you have this turned down?

Na he's talking about Climate control aircon system with the digital display for the fans etc. Like everything else electric the lighting burns out over time and I've seen plenty displays with lines missing or red lines through it. Best to get another one and plug it in to check.

If the led display is gone, look for another head unit!

If the back lighting of the buttons to the far left and far right of the led screen are not lighting up!
-Remove surround around radio and climate control fasure
- Remove the 4 Philips head screws that hold the climate control unit to the dash frame work.
-Unplug climate control plugs before removing head unit out of the dash.
-Both left and right side of rear of unit there are deep sunken holes with a green lamp holder (the head on it looks like a Philips head "X") dont use a Philips head use the right sized flat head for the grooves.
- Its a 1/4 turn anti-clock wise, after a bit of wriggling it should pop out with the globe attached to the other side of the green lamp holder,
-Take globe to an auto sparky and look through catalog to find replacement.

the button don't light up, and the led screen does'nt either. but like i said, when it is dark out, i can faintly see the temperature and the vent level (floor, vent, defrost). So i assume its gone? or is it just the backlight?

for reference, i seen a actual working climate control unit in another evo, and i could clearly see all the led function - in broad daylight, but i did'nt notice the buttons light up.

Check the dash illumination wire(yellow) curcuit for the Climate control head unit. This is what dims the climate control when headlights are on exackly same as what it does for some stereo head units if they have that function.

Just a quick question, do you have your headlights/parkers turned on when testing this?

When I have mine turned on due to bad weather during the day I can hardly see the display, but when the lights are off(headlights) I can read it with ease.

Jap specs dont have this feature. Its an ADR though.

Im with Liberoz on this one. Sounds like the night time dimmer is stuck on. Could be a wiring issue?

That's why jspecs don't get the dimmer able dash cluster as this same circuit is used for the spot and fog light switching for Jspecs.

Sounds like a backlight problem.

Just change the globes. The LCD seems to be working fine if you can see it in daylight.

im pretty sure i have the dimmer knob.. it adjusts the speedo lights right...??

and mine is a jspec..

a dimmer switch for the dash is an adr requirement

all cars imported to oz without it have to have it fitted during compliance

Q:"p3akin" :You may have the dimmable dash cluster!
my question is do you have an operational fog or driving lights? ;)
