hey guys i recently brought a 4g93t engine, to replace my blown up engine from a forum member, he stripped the car after he said it had a clutch failure after putting in a brand new clutch, i finally got all the exchange done but went to drive it and there was a clutch problem, there's a bang bang type noise when you put your foot on the clutch, i reused my old clutch that time, and was thinking that had died too in the blow up, so i brought another brand new clutch only to suffer the same problem ?? i did notice when putting on the gearbox this time there was little movement in the flywheel is that called end float?, would that cause the clutch problem if it was moving around etc, i installed the clutch disck with the flat side against the fly wheel and the spring side that sticks out more to the gearbox i used a clutch guide to get it all right just cant see it been the clutch, cheers phill.

hi
sounds like your crank thrust bearings might be gone and your getting crankwalk, this is pretty common on some series of 4g63 not sure about the 4g93 though, i think your only supposed to have 0.05 to 0.25mm play or 0.4 mm at the most of endplay using dial indicator ,if its floppying about like crazy might need an engine build. are the flywheel bolts tight? did you get flywheel machined before install could have a high spot
hopefully might be something simpler but, goodluck bro

put a screw driver under the front pulley on the engine......if it is moving around more than 1mm back and forth. end float is an issue. BUT that shouldn't cause the noise you describe.

Wow, I never knew any of the above.
I have a really strong feeling that the clutch problems I was having before was all due to the crank bearings slowly dying.
Live and learn
