hi all ive been having a crap tin of probs with my clutch and i'm hoping i can pick your guys brains for some solutons. i own a 93 cc gsr. its had the vr4 conversion with a lot of mods. when i bought me car the clutch was insanly hard to push. since inspection for leaks i noticed a 3inch crack in the firewall comming from the top clutch master cylnder bolt. being in such a tight spot i couldnt get to it to weld it up so i sorta left it and forgot about it(stupid me) as it stands at the moment i've;

snaped my clutch fork in half(costing me $800 to fix),
the clutch pedal snaped off forcing me to drive with out a clutch through brisbane(quite an interesting expierance),
the hydralic hose burst,
a spring in the clutch plate let go snaping another clutch fork forceing me to get a jim berry 4 puck carbonic clutch with an evo3 presure plate modded to handle 2800lbs at a cost of $1000,
the clutch fork has snaped again(i now have a vr4 one cause apparently they a stronger)
the clutch peddal brke again.

each time ive had to replace the slave cylinder because its bent the shaft going from the slave cylinder to the clutch fork. so thats 3 slave cylinders, 3 clutch forks, 2 clutch pedals, removed and installed the gearbox 3 times, replaced the master cylinder twice and a brand new clutch plate and pressure plate.
now after all that everything that has something to do with the clutch is brand new. what i want to know is;

why is it so hard to push the pedal?(do i need a bigger master cyl?)
why do i keep snapping clutch pedals and clutch forks?
why its sometimes hard to go from 1st to 2nd and i consuquently miss 2nd gear?

Why Why Why so may questions. your help would be greatly appreciated thanks

You should have fixed that crack straight away!

Its a common problem with HD clutches!

Every time you go to change gears the firewall flexes and its hard/impossible to change gears.

Get it welded up and/or a master cylinder brace installed to stop the firewall flex.

Snapping clutch forks is at the extreme end of things and im :shock: :shock: to find you have done it not once but twice let alone at all!

Clutch pedal box snapping does happen but not that often.

Its a symptom of something else synister. IE firewall flex.

Do a search of the keyword "firewall" and or "flex" or "clutch" and see what has happened to other people in this regard.

Hope for all the best :)

On another note, please put up some pics in a new thread in members rides.

Also say hi in the intro thread

Tell us more about yourself :wink:

its a jim berry clutch, custom made 4 puck carbonic sprung clutch plate and a moddified evo 3 pressure plate that has 2800lbs clamping force..

thanks for the link Richard i think ill make u a couple of braces to strengthen up the firewall..my cars currently at apc getting the engine rebuilt. they said they would weld the crack up for me aswell so hopefully with it weded up and some braceing the firewall wont flex and it'll stop breakin shit lol

The jim berry clutch is the reason you need a whole lot of left leg.

I have the same thing enroute for my VR4 except with a 3500lb plate and am informed that I need a good set of muscles in my left leg to operate the pedal.

On the flipside, stops women from driving the car. hahahaa.

should be a bit easier once you have your firewall braced.
