Howdy,

As per title, this is just a thought. I could go and find thjs out for muself on an importer wrecker etc but maybe someone here has already done this.
In theory how hard would it be to fit evo6 engine into a gsr ?

I can see everyone reaching out to start typing how engine is flipped around the other way etc etc. But if you remove the engine out of the gsr bay and cut off the factory engine mounts , what will be stopping this conversion from necomimg a,reality ?

im guessing that its a matter of re-welding new engine mount points, new drive shafta, evo6 gearbkx and transfer case along with matched ratio diff and an ecu?

I have not heard of anyine attempting this and im sure there is a good reason behind it but what is that reason, those who know the answer please share.

:)

it can and has been done before.
As you said the upper engine mount needs to be moved, a 6 front crossmember, arms etc all bolts into the front.
You can even fit a whole rear end out of a 6 with an extra pick up point for the upper arm to keep the diff ratios the same

look at the thread by jayrome about the late evo head (3g) on the vr4 block.
it involves putting the turbo between the engine and the firewall, and the associated plumbing, and running the intake between the radiator and the engine.
this will be much less work than what you are considering, and with all the benefits. the only thing you would miss out on is the later evo had 1 less shaft inside the gearbox, so less drivetrain losses.

maybe you could go 1 better and use the evo9+ head and pick up the mivec as well. Also, I would be looking at matching the late evo head with the 2.4 nimbus sohc block as it is a bit of a hybrid, with our orientation (correct bosses for alt, powersteer, and maybe driveshaft) but with the larger deck with the extra oil returns that jayrome had to weld up when using the 1g block (also 2g blocks).
I have not actually physically looked at this, only pics and so forth, and moderate research...

Maybe, even the 3g block will bolt to our gearboxes, but you would need to check the bosses on the front of the engine for compatability, and i can see that some would be missing. though you could go for manual steer, no aircon and altenator could go either side...

Racefab, in NZ

its was made for a customer who seems to have disappeared now that he needs to pay.

Anything can be done, only limit is the depths of your pockets...

A sheep?? you cant put them in the ocean, havnt u seen what happens to a tampon when immersed in water??

This would be the best conversion ever. I suggest you start by taking a oxy to your engine bay and cutting everything out and then work out how to make it fit. This way you will have a clean slate to start with.

The only thing about this conversion is why? Mivec..yeah maybe but I wouldn't see many piling a lot of money into an early model car for this mod. There are so many things better with newer eg. wider wheel track, food for thought..

Don't be silly. The why is because you can. Why wouldn't you do it. The money spent would definitely be recuperated the end and it would just as fast as a another evo with a 4g63.

I totally agree with this. Norris designs in the uk used to run an Evo 3 with a big hp Evo 5 engine and drivetrain there are vids of it doing time attack at castle Coombs in the uk and the thing was mental fast. Also I thought the bottom ends were slightly different as well and the 4-9 4g63 were redesigned to have a lighter rotating assembly to aid responsiveness. 4's however are notoriously prone to crank walk. Ive had plenty of mates in nz experience this on evo4's. IMO after driving both early 4g63's and later 4g63's if I had the money I'd like to do an Evo 9 4g63 conversion on my current car. If your worried about a wider footprint just look at dougmos build thread!!! Nothing wrong with an older lighter platform. MCA came third at world time attack in an s13 Sylvia didn't they???

Lol true that:) Its definitely only something youd do if You had a truckload of spare cash and then you'd be wondering why you were still driving a near 20yr old Mitsubishi.
