COP setup vs stock twin coilpack.

Hello guys,

Thanks to another post on this forum mentioning the COP setup it got me thinking.... Is there any real benefit from having COP setup vs stock twin coil and leads ??

Or is it all about the "Wow looks cool" factor ?

Pros=
Less resistance due to very short distance and no leads
Tidy
Individual coils per cylinder

Cons=
High heat exposure (increase chance of coil failure)
Harder to check plugs
Cost

I've heard that many guys who go from std to COP end up going back to std due to poor spark strength. I had a set that i sold to a friend. He is using them with his CDI and it is going strong. Mind you, he only bought my set because his first set started miss firing. Unsure why but it degraded in performance. Most likely due to heat wear......

Hmm hardly worth it in my case. Especially since i would be chopping into my carbon fibre cover which was a knut to find as is.

I looked into a spark tech cop set up a while back and after some research I decided not to. Basically for a relatively standard engine and ecu these things do nothing other than looking pretty andreplacing your leads and standard coil pack. Due to less resistance They may slightly smoothen the idle and help reduce fuel consumption when they are new but As baz said
they deteriorate faster than a standard set up. put your hand on the rocker cover after a good blast mate and I bet if you were a coil pack you rather be in the standard location.
The advantages of these really only come into play in high boost applications and vehicles with obd2 based ecu's especially aftermarket such as motec etc. with obd2 the diagnostics is able to detect individual cylinder miss fires. I cod ramble on for ages telling you what I found out but baz is right

Mate I'd be interested to know where you got your cf cover from especially if your running a 63. I saw one in the states ages ago and haven't been able to find one available since

Yeah I was lucky to score one from Malasia.

A guy sells them on ebay from time to time. Just under $100 pistage inc so not too bad.

If you are using am after market ecu you cant beat LS1 coils for $ value. Im running 36psi through a second hand 50$ set of LS1 coils with a .9 plug gap from memory.

The compound turbo van. It started pushing coolant at powerplay so after it gets some L19's and an auto its going to take 40+.
