hey people im just wondering whats the good and the bad of both copper and metal head gaskets......

i have a ****** old copper one on there now and stupidly i put it on the engine after annealing......there is now coolant in my oil....and vise versa!

im just after opinions on the metal over the copper head gaskets.....

coz ive been put off the copper ones i think!

any help would be ace!!

thanks if u can help! :D

Mitsubishi continue to use multi-layer steel headgaskets for their EVO Ralliart cars for a good reason. Instead of Mitsubishi gasket I went with the Cometic multi-layer because its got the added built in O-ring type groove which helps sealing heaps and are a proven product

EDIT - Ummm nooo ^^^^ Don't use Cometic if you're aiming for >24psi.
Buy an OEM multi layer steel headgasket with the fire ring built in, or a HKS headgasket. The fire ring around the bore is the most important factor!!! .

with the o ring type groove....my head has been o ringed....but the block isnt....could i still use the cometic? :?

cheers bro!

I use one of the mitsy metal head gaskets on my Evo 3. Running 20+psi at times with no dramas.
I was also running a standars type gasket before when I was running vr4 pistons and rods at 20+psi as well with no probs.

I run the STD VR4 Gasket at 20psi peak with no issues

is that the really stock one that u can get a repco for like 30 bucks??

if so i might go 4 dat one or see how bad the copper one is and use that!

sorry if this sounds dumb, but i read this and got the impression that you put a used head gasket on your car, if so then of course you will get oil in the coolant and coolant in the oil, once they have been torqued down, if you take the head off you put a brand spankin new gasket on it

I ordered a Mitsubishi multi layer head gasket from NZ. I had to wait a few days longer but it was cheaper.

I avoided going with a copper head gasket because I have heard of so many stories of blown up engines that used one. In my opinion, A head gaskets also acts as a fuse, If it didn't blow something else would've.

If it's any help, here's a piture of a mitsu 3 Layer gasket including part number.
the second is compared to the standard 4g63t gasket.
the third is me trying to get an artistic style photo
