Ok guys, so I've stripped my engine down and have decided to replace the rings while its apart. I'll be getting the bore honed also as it's glazed pretty badly so will need cross hatching at least.

I know on the CP website that it says that CP rings only fit CP pistons, however is there any other brand of ring that anyone has been able to fit to CP forged pistons? Preferably something local?

I'd like to stick with the molly's as the rest of the engine is built up so want to keep it all as strong as possible.

Any suggestions? Ideas? Experiences?

If there are no other options does anyone know where to purchase CP rings in Australia/Sydney?

Thanks in advance.

Is your piston to bore clearance still in spec? Because you may need o/s pistons as well.

How thick is the ring groove? This is what will determine what rings will fit. Cp maybe a thin ring, but you can cut the groove bigger.

But probably easier to get cp rings, and probably cheaper from stateside

can get rings for these from MODERN AUTOMOTIVE PERFORMANCE in the US. My last set was 80ish dollars...I shopped around locally and didnt find a decent price let alone even close

Thanks BMGTZ, I just gave Quantum Racing Industries a call in QLD, they can do them for $110 + 13.95 postage. Not as cheap but probably quicker I spose.

Jack of all : Pistons are already 20thou oversize. Need to check the exact bore size after the honing is done and let them know what size rings I need, although this shouldn't change dramatically. I believe the grooves are quite thin in comparison to other brands, I think 1mm for the top groove and about 1.5 for the second. I'm not really keen to have the grooves machined.

Vince, my bloke does them cheaper, $100 can have here in a day from melb, they are same size/clearnaces as the JE pistons. Let me know if/when you want :)

Are they JE rings then? Are they Mollys?

Sounds good I might have to hit you up when I get the bores sized. Thanks Marc!

4G93T right?

Ahhh fuck Vin, i just assumed you were talkin 63, i'll get in touch with him and see what i can do, YES JE rings.

Get in touch will see what i can get for ya, need any ARP bolts/studs and MLS gaskets etc etc??

Ahh all good, lucky I edited that post huh!

Actually I'm waiting on Rocket to get me a set of ARP head studs. They have the main studs in, but three weeks wait on the heads. (Mains AR203-4204 Toyota 3SGTE, Heads: AR203-4204)

As for gaskets, I'm after an intake manifold gasket if you can get them?

Yeah no probs will get you the prices tomorrow, more than likely be cheaper than fuckin Rocket, they don't get that big without making massive profits, and it takes alot of cash to run 4 or 5 nitro dragsters.

I think clearance will be fine as I'm only getting rid of the shine in the bore.

Thanks for your help Marc, apparently the part number for the 4g93t rings is CPN-3209 if that helps?
