ive read over the years that crankwalk can be an issue that effects the 4g63's in early evo's.

does the mighty 4g93 have a similar reputation for this?

or is the whole issue very rare in 63's anyway?

thanks

Iv seen more beb in evo 1-3 63's than thrust bearing. never seen a 93 get crank walk.

Nope, havent heard of it happening in 4G93's.
The side journal wear that causes crankwalk is prevalent in EVO 1's right up to EVO 9's. Something's pushing the crank sideways... 10 points for guessing what you think it is?
Here's a good video to show you what it looks like: http://i605.photobucket.com/player.swf?file=http://vid605.photobucket.com/albums/tt139/svar/Crankwalk_0001.flv
6 bolts FTW!! :p
Here's a pic I took of an EVO 5 crank which was obviously no good for the rebuild. Check out that side journal wear that looks like a badly worn out disc brake rotor.

Just a quick note! I have a proven fix for "crankwalk" thrustbearing failure.

and yes the clutch pressure and proper clutch adjustment is the main cause of it! but not in a 93

yes i can share it but I think I'll do a write up with pics!

which will show the proof that it actually works

and the other factors that contrubite to the problem.

if i forget you can simply pm me a reminder :)

Hi Guys
I have been evesdropping on your crankwalk discussion. I have a lancer gsr with the 4g93t in her and just went to pick up my car after a boost guage, fmic and piping installation. I Payed him alot of money to jump in my car and drive it like twenty metres. It stalled at the lights. it wouldn't start if i had the clutch pedal in. Even when it did start it would stall/cut out when i pussed the clutch pedal in. I have had eleven posts saying it was crankwalk but those guys probably thought i had a 4g63. The engine has only 130,000 on her and she was going really hard before i put her in the shop. hopefully just a loose connection or something. Do I need to tune her or reset the idle control? Just hope like fuck its not crankwalk as i just spent 3 grand on the head and other stuff..

ANY ADVICE IS GREATLY APPRECIATED .... THANKS LUKE

i'd be checking you afm and tps are set right. tps set incorrectly caused hunting for me and a shonky afm or major boost leak will cause what your describing. but you also said in that other thread no oil pressure. so apart from those i dunno.

Autos don't create crank walk, cuz there is no thrust bearing making ellbow room during gear changes.
Cheers !

6 bolts and 4g93's dont seem to suffer, but I have done a bit of research on the problem.

and it comes down to 3 things - oil and clutch and clutch adjustment.

isn't that normal for a 93?

this is no normal 93.... Piston Slap from the forged Wiseco.......normal 93s sound like diesel due to lifters. But
even with the 14b its pretty quick for a 93 and this bitch loves revs. Makes me wish I had put better valve springs in
