Thanks Brian, Ive never seen the inside of one of those before and now I understand how it works.
At first glance, the 4 spider tooth engagement looked a bit iffy to me but then on a closer look I realised that the corners of the cogs are chamferred and the teeth engage fully. The pic is slightly dark and when lightened up you can see the teeth meshing inside.
That is a great design. It eliminates burring of the teeth edges which eventually causes cracking = well done Cusco, especially when dumping a lot of the torque split to the rear wheels.
Those buggars are worth the money if you could get one.
When you consider that machining an OEM centre diff for a 4-spider conversion, getting 2 extra spider gears, upgrading to a chromoly centre diff cross-shaft, torrington bearing upgrade to the centre diff top-hat, extra brass shims and new bronze lower pinion washer etc... the price would be around the $1500 mark and you're still got a 50/50 split. Sure it'll handle more power but not good if you are looking for rear bias in the first place. The extra $700 or so for a rear bias Cusco centre diff is well worth it
Oh forgot to add... I wonder what this Maxlock mod is to the rear diff they are talking about? probably different shims/preload for a quicker and harsher engangement?
