Again ive had the pleasure of destroying another harmonic balancer

while trying to solve other on going problems, pulley developed abit of a wobble ( again ) so pulled her off and bingo, keyway has spun 3/4 way around the bloody pulley...

not only that the woodruff key has broken in half so i cant get a grip on her to get her out ( later problem ) but also a nice score around the neck of the pulley end where im guessing the balancer spun the broken key around.

Why does this keep happening? the mainbolt was tigher then the required (181nm) and had no movement / clearance between pulley, spacer and face of crank..

Help me before i burn down my house

excessive end play my friend the crank itself is moving side to side alowing the pulley to move. mine did it twice aswell as a result i've just gone through a complete rebuild.

i would be investigating your thrust face washers and their mating surface i believe that is what killed mine with the possibility of a incorect/soft keyway

Too tight on fan belts
Is the end of crank rusty like k or shiny? Maybe washer is bottoming out on crank.
Keys are meant to be soft. You buy special key steel when making your own.

You can pull the timing gear over the key, it will fit. Maybe cut the key flush with timing gear and then pull it. Or file it flush.
