Since ive started tuning with the ecmlink, ive been taking it for granted that hitting the rev limiter is relatively safe, its an injector cut from what i can see and the timing remains unchanged. From what ive read it doesn't cut spark.

I set it at 7500 or 7750 and i slap it a fair bit. Wondering it i should relax a bit.

Any situation where this could be damaging. Obviously the car is warmed up ect before spirited driving.

Motor is internally stock with bc272's, these are meant to be right with stock springs till 8000. I wont rev it that hard. Ive changed all the belts ect so i'm thinking more if the internals.

They actually recommend them for the 280/280 and up Craig.
They state that stock is ok for the 272's.
Personally I fitted their springs with mine but as they aren't a real agressive cam then the stock springs would be ok up to around 7500 as long as they are in good condition.

BC reccomend heavy duty springs be fitted with the 272/272 combo

they might recomend it, somewhere, but you certainly dont need it, they even say so.

i was under the impression the BC cams a fairly low on lift on the 272 when compared to other brands......and this is why stock springs are OK. simply they don't coil bind with the lift on their cam.

given the rev limiter question......I ran a mines ecu before I changed to the ecm. I found out that the mines ecu had no rev limiter........well none that I found when revving it way out past 8k. it actually chattered the valves and still no limiter.

the engine is still solid and has been hammered.. probably wont last for ever but hey I accept the consequences of giving it a walloping are accelerated wear.

Im not sure if its a spark cut, the thread i could find on dsmlink forums was talking about a spark cut as well as fuel cut, as people with meth injection would run lean without it cutting spark. But they hadn't put it in yet.

Looking at my logs it cuts the fuel in and out and timing is unaffected. It should run lean as it pulsates but it also blows smoke like its rich and flames if i shift just as the limiter kicks in. Never registered knock.

my mistake, i stand corrected, i thought I had read somewhere when i ordered mine that I had to go to a heavy duty spring.

What logger are you using? I've found mmcd won't sample fast enough to pick up whether it's fuel or ignition being cut for the rev limiter.

fwiw at night you can sometimes get a flame from the exhaust whilst bouncing off the rev limiter with stock ecu which makes me suspect it is an ignition cut.

A fuel cut wouldn't cause the engine to run lean as long as NO fuel is going into the cylinders.

Oh, and a mines ecu is only good for a doorstop imo.

I been tuning with ecmlink v3lite (the new name for dsmlink). So i can see a lot more than i could ever see when i was using mmcd.
The difference is chalk and cheese,
