Just wondering if anyone has used the 5000 series rotors from DBA? Pro's? Con's? worth it?

ive tried searching for reviews but havnt come up with much

also anyone know a good place to go to get a set?
any input is appreciated guys, cheers :)

dont think you can get 5000s for a vr4,but they are good,

i was after some a little while ago with no luck

They're made special order only, pretty sure for any car. Can get through supercheap. Advantages would be they're light. Less rolling mass is good. Is pretty much only advantage over running slotted. Probably not worth it unless for track-driven car.

If you were in NSW I'd send you to Specialised Brake & Clutch to see a mate of mine who does presision stud pattern drill outs for race disk rotor blanks, there would be someone in melb that can do it I'm just not from those parts of the woods to know of them.

well yeh i plan to track the car pretty soon which is why im after something good. ive read they are good with heat dispertion also which means lower chances of brake fade under heavy braking.

i may look into it 2morrow a bit deeper and yeh i was pretty sure they are a custom order thing. give the PCD and the dimensions of the disc u want and they will make em for u

you can get 4000s off the shelf for the vr4 which are pretty good, have you priced the 5000s yet as they are not cheap at all.

hmmm u wouldnt happen 2 know what the 4000s are roughly?
also, one more thing, instead of making a new topic

is it possible to put a bigger rotor and use the same calipers?
i know it wont serve any braking assistance but i just wanna fill out the wheels a lil more

4000 slotteds go for around $210 each last time i got some,

you would need to make up a new caliper bracket to space the caliper out to accept the larger rotor. not as easy as yuou might think on a
twin pot slider type caliper.

if you can do it though you would get an improvement in braking
with the larger rotor

well i went and bought myself a set of 4000 series fronts and RDA slotted rears.
why RDA's u ask? because i wasnt willing to wait a month for a set of DBA's. from what ive seen at various shops, no one keeps the rears in stock. so the bloke rang dba direct for me and they said they dont even have any and it would take a month to get a set...F$#K THAT!

ive read some "not so great" things about RDA's products but i guess only time will tell

so...anyone got a reccomendation on good pads? im not after some full race pad thats useless unless they are warm but like i said before, i plan to throw her on the track soon so im lookin for something that will be up for it

Clarify "track".
Are you just going to be doing 5 lap sprints, or 30 lap races. A pad suitable for the first one and street driving will not be suitable for the second one. And a pad suitable for the second will not be suitable for the street.

Without knowing what callipers you have, if you have a prefacelift vr4 with single piston callipers, forget it, throw the callipers in the bin.

If you have twin piston callipers, then I can vouch for Ferodo DS2500's. Great for short sprints and around the street (although they can squeal abit) but they are not for 10+ lap events.

Another chap was going to try some EBC Blue's to see what they were like, I haven't heard the outcome though.

If you can, remove the dust shield from inside the wheel for more ventilation.

i asked around a few mates and i decided on a set of EBC Red's and yeh i got the twin pistons on.

couple of hiccups with the rotors though, i had to get them sent from sydney coz no one had 4000's here. it took 2 days to get here. picked em up today only to open the box and find normal slotted rotors.
i cbf waiting anymore coz my car is sitting on 4 jack stands in the driveway taking up parking space so i just got a refund on the diference and took em.

went to put them on and the caliper bracket is rubbing on the centre hub :(

whats the difference in sizing to the A-spec and J-spec Rotors? if any?
or is the difference in facelift to pre-facelift? what have i done wrong? lol

are you sure they are the right rotors? are they 402's?

if you back to back them with the old 256mm ones(not sure on size exactly from the single piston calipers) they should have the same size centre hole and be the same height

the id should be the same just that the od of the rotor is larger...

i take it you got the twin pots complete with all the mouunting brackets etc...?

as you said something is not right

no theyre 221's and the twin pots have been on the car since i got it, im not puttin em on now

i just went and lined them up new to old
the Outer diamater of the entire disc is smaller by maybe 2mm
the inner hub bit is bigger by maybe 1mm

and i noticed on the old rotors there is an addition 2 holes in between where the wheel stud are
im so confused atm

the ones he's given me are 265mm OD
he's given the ones listed for HG, HH
I need the HH5 VR4 listing....
looks like i'll be without my car for a lil while longer

anyone know who would stock the 402's? i would really like to get the car back together asap

I'm curious as to why the calliper bracket was scraping on the hub. Is your car a prefacelift? If so, i'm guessing someone has used the original calliper bracket from the single piston callipers and just put the twins on there, in which case, you won't fit any bigger than the standard prefacelift 267mm rotor.

When I upgraded my brakes to the twins, I used the calliper brackets that the twin piston callipers were bolted to and there is a good 5mm of clearance between the bracket and the hub (and that's on the 276mm Aus spec and facelift rotors.)
When I bolted the calliper bracket to suit the twins on, I had to trim away part of the dust shield to make it fit. Has yours had this done to it?
