I was wondering if you go dirt bike riding in the bush/tracks etc

do you need a motorbike licence? (or is the car licence enough)

I know the bike needs rec reg

for moto X and off road riding you dont need a licence... but you do need to be under 0.05 or you can loose your car licence i believe.. same for push bike and horses lol...

cheers J

And ride on lawn mowers

i had a mate who went dirt bike riding in a humungus paddock and he got done $500 for riding on the paddock and another $500 for riding w/o a lisence. dont know if the amounts r correct but he did get fined none the less for both reasons. dont know why, he was riding a dirtbike, had helmet and everything on, i thought u didnt need a license for it aswell, cause i go riding sometimes and i dont have one, but i havnt been caught so......

was it a public paddock, thats expensive

yeah it was actuallyl, like in his street i rekon about an acre of land waiting to be developed. so not like there was a playground or anything. but yeah, maby the cop was watchin him n thought "time to sting" he had a stack that day too and ruined my boyfriends bike. (just a thumpsta jap bike atomik or sum shhhttt.) 250 cc 4 stroke, he did have a yamaha 250cc 2 stroke but sold it for $250(not working) not long ago. now we have the 2 cheap dirt bikes that probably wone hold for much longer lol.

i shoulda been born a guy, ima chick who loves cars and loves riding dirtbikes....hmmmm go figure.....

it doesnt matter what sex you are as long as your having fun

AFAIK, you still need a licence when riding off road, thats probably why EMZ mate got booked. A mate of mine just bought a new bike and I was talking about it with him the other day ...

lol having fun i am!! im having so much fun my turbo is on the way out. lol i need to fix it soon. and fast. i love speed (unless theres those cameras that flash u)

so yeah, i hope i dont get done for riding anytime soon. The bikes r too big for me though, my feet dont even touch the ground and i get scared of the 250cc sometimes. so i back off. but in the 125, lol full stick all the way!.

Yeah that fine sounds about right Emz.
$500 for no license as this covers you with ambulance insurance etc with TAC and riding without a bike permit and in a no riding zone $500

Travis I have 2 kx250s good nick how bout some sorta swap for the Borg?
I will include riding gear too. :D

Yes you do need a license to ride in any of the state forests or any roads that aren't speed posted. Grouse fun, the bike also needs to be rec reged, which is nice and cheap compared to cars.

Cheers

If you just want to hit the trails Travis, you should just go to a riding park..( always thought you guys had a few really good ones in Vic )..and you wont require a licence or rec reg.
I have spotted a few ads for some of those parks in dirt bike mags and they look great with everything from supercross to enduro tracks and hillclimbs all at the one site.
I just usually hit the forestry trails down here, but get away without the licence and reg with no hassles...the perks of being in the country :D ....and the 450 loves to tear up the terrain

Im going to go to a bike club which is down the road and talk to the guys downs there, I think thats a no licence one but you have to where all the protection gear

Nice bike Scott  (I got a bit scared when I saw the pic  )

I might get my licence anyways as my last bike was a GSXR 750, and it would be good to get a weekend bike again

aye.. after the initial cost it doesnt cost anything extra to have it so its not a bad investment given the laws chop and change ( as ilistrated by the different answeres in this thread) only way to be sure is to ask the authorities it seems

I got my learner's not so long ago, did a two day course at METEC in Kilsyth. Freaking awesome, I don't ride at the moment (no bike, no money, etc. :p) but the course alone is worth doing I think. I'm nearly able to go for my licence, but seeing I haven't had any on road practice I'm not going to. And they did mention at METEC there that you need a licence to ride off road even, and make sure you don't go over the 250cc limit until you're allowed to. Like EvoTom said, TAC won't cover you if you don't have it. I'd hate to think of what it'd cost to get air lifted out if you smashed out in the middle of no where!

I wouldn't mind getting into a bit of off road riding actually, looks like some serious fun. I seem to have a lot more fun with vehicles when I'm off the tarmac. Think I'll be grabbing a 250 Ninja before I get an off roader though.

I cant trust myself enough to own a roadbike.Nor can I trust the wank drivers that cut you off. If you remember all the times someone has nearly run you off the road, changed lanes without indicating or nearly hit you whilst you were driving a car imagine how DEADLY it will get on a bike. No thanks.

Dad has a xr400 and a zx7r recently stacked the road bike though
