Hi All,
I am a Newbie to this forum. I am considering buying this maroon Aspec 91 VR4. There is no history with it as the current owner said he bought it from the Auctions with a dinted rear bumper and boot lid but no structural damage. The car appears to have had a new turbo, and was in Bundburg in December 2003 where it was serviced at 209kms according to a sticker on the air cleaner. At that time it was registered as FOV 925 I believe. It was re- registered in November last year after the repairs and bumper/boot respray as TUV 744. It is bog standard with 234k's and looks clean and original everywhere. Not sure how to add the photos I have.
What problems could I expect with this number of k's?
Does anyone know anything about this car? :?: :?:

i think i know this car

if it was only rear damage and was purchased from the auctions, with 200+ kms.. its probably JOHN's car...

i had installed a boost gauge and fixed some bad vac lines..

is the paint sorta rough?
lots of red dirt in the engine bay?
interior wise, steering wheel leather is quite used...

it could have been cleaned but it does sound like john's car..

history - stock!!.. owner used to drive to QLD ALOT!!!...
daily driver, used for long holiday drives etc etc..

thats all i knew about it..

also, it used to have a tow bar.. dont know if it was stuffed or not.

Thanks Bazeng.
This could well be the car as there are holes where a boost gauge probably was near the A pillar. Did not notice holes for a towbar, but will check. Had new clutch and brake? master cylinders as I recall. Steering wheel a bit worn on the cross shaft thumb grip areas. Has had rear and front bumpers resprayed he told me - but could be more done. Has now been polished up and looks quite good, but underneath the reddish dirt etc is sort of baked on. Still has standard radio and tape deck. Yellowish stained carpets all round.
Do you know of any of its service history? Timing belt, turbo, regular maintenance etc?
Cheers, Chooka.

There was a red one through the QLD auctions a few months back that had major rear end damage. It might have been repaired and now it's being flogged off. 200+ kms on that too. Just take the car to a panel beater and have them inspect it for previous accident damage (it's very very easy to spot if you know how)

As for your engine, budget for a rebuild. 236kms is a lot for ANY engine, let alone a turbocharged one. My vr4 is edging towards 150k kms and i'm starting to consider a rebuild.

A 1987 import from japan, with only 150k's...
I'm sure it's legit

Want the logbooks Tharaka? My car may have had a lot of problems when it landed/I got it, but I've fixed them and I guarantee you the speedo hasn't been tampered with.

And dre, it's starting to make some weird noises that weren't there before. After I sort out this gearbox/transfer (again) i'll listen for less weird noises. I think the block of the car is fine, and it has no HG or Rocker Cover leaks... but I'm just -considering-. I haven't even looked into prices or if I want to stroke it when/if I rebuild etc.
