just a quick q.........are vr4 and evo 3 dumps the same size on the inside?
reason for askin is i got a 14b setup on my gsr and im lookin to upgrade my dump....

No they are not. The evo ones have a larger outlet and the outlet flange is on a different angle to the vr4 one, and the bolt spacing on the outlet flange are different to the vr4 one as well.

bolt spacing on the outlet flange is the same on evo - vr4 (er, on jap ones anyway), but yes the flange is on a different angle - made my exhaust hit my transfercase :?

Weird :shock: , when I pulled my stock vr4 dump pipe off and put the evo 3 one on, I had to slot the holes in the flange on the exhaust that connected to the outlet of the dump pipe before it would fit.

hmm, odd - how much did you have to slot them by?

The flanges on both my front pipes (new 3" and the tiny one I assumed to be stock) have quite large holes....

The stock original exhaust pipe flange only had small holes which just fitted over the studs. I think I had to elongate the holes in the flange about 3 mm each to get it to fit over the studs in the dump pipe, of course the exhaust was then hitting the transfer case and leaking at the joint so I ended up biting the bullet and getting a 3" system put on it but don't know if they had to modify the new flange to fit it or not.

yeh? how much did ya port out? did it make a difference?and what did ya use?

i fitted a bigger turbo when i did it so to be honest i dont know how much of a difference that one porting job did...the car went harder anyway.

I used a die grinder and opened up the outlet of the dump pipe probably about 3mm each side..so 6 mm in total..a fair bit..i took all the gasket lip away and went about 40mm deep...it'd have to help..thing is it flows into a ****** front pipe..so port that mating section while your there...then you start thinking you may as well get a full exhaust....every little bit helps though..
im making my custom 2 1/2 In. dump pipe now..so i just threw the ported stock one on in the meantime.
