E85 Fuel locations

4GTuner

Help Support 4GTuner:

A mate got 20 - 30 kw's from going to E10 (100 ron).

Imagine E85!!!!

Problem is the standards of E85. Anybody know of the quality at the pump?
I'd only get the race fuel stuff for consistency.

Ive heard E85 eats fuel pumps and lines. Can anyone confirm if this is true

I've also heard that if you screw your face up and the wind changes that it will stay that way :p
It's all a load of crap! It only has an effect on cars that have very old fuel systems. I.E say pre 85 here.

Hmmm OK. So given that the fuel system in mine is completely stock, basically there is no benefit to using it unless I get it retuned. I'd like to try it since it's so much cheaper but I don't want to lunch the engine.

To upgrade to E85 you will need as a minimum:

fuel pump (walbro is fine)
injectors (1000cc)
retune - AFR's, timing and stoich ratios are all different for E85.

Regarding petrol stations mixing 91RON fuel in theiR e85, i've attached a useful stoich conversion tool.

Cheers,
Alex

Thanks Alex (good name btw). After what you've said I'll just forget about using it. I'll just keep the car stock I think, and the initial costs are not going to be paid off quickly enough by the cheaper fuel price.

I wouldn't think the main concern for people converting to E85 is fuel economy. Remember that that AFR for E85 is approx 25% less so naturally you will need to use more fuel and hence 'L/100ks' fuel economy would be significantly worse than 98RON fuel.

The huge advantage of e85 is its ability to cool the engine and aid in reducing knock (hence advance timing, more boost, etc).

I had a chat with the highett guys they said 1 older car they had in did kill the fuel pump and all the rubber fuel lines expanded, it was like a VN commo special might have been even a VL, I didnt get into detail about the car to much

but nothing else so far

you can run it in a standard car but to get the real gain you need to tune etc as alex said

yeh, i have yet to know anyone that getting e85 tune to pay cheaper price for fuel.

it's simply because significant power gains for arguably cheap mods.

- 1000/1050/1200cc injectors $600ish
- fuel pump $150
- teflon lines as mentioned before, but there are heaps heaps people running e85 with stock lines.

so less than $1k for 30ish Kw gain.

Does anyone think that all the new Evo owners using E85 on their stock lines will be in for a surprise in say 5 years?
