in relation to this .... eg:>>> a Australian delivered GSR will be as you say. It will have a stamped JAP VIN (XXXCD5AXXXXXXX) on the firewall to correspond to a JAP plate under the front edge of the bonnet (CD5A-SNGF). then also have 2 more plates on the firewall AUS related but dont match the JAP VIN.

1) build plate with year and options ... 2) compliance plate with date and the new AUS issued VIN eg: JMFCC7S41XXXXXXXX with the matching number stamped on the passenger side strut tower.

with a import like this EVO in question ...it will have a matching JAP VIN and VIN build plate located both on the firewall
CE9A-XXXXXXX. then once complied/engineered as a yellow plate or like the 6TREP/REB's in VIC, the same number gets stamped on the drivers side strut tower. Travs car is like this.

I think he would have just put the 10k starting bid to attract a decent amount of attention but his reserve is probably alot higher than that. I guess if it doesnt reach what he wants it'll get passed in and re-listed with a buy it now price.

There is no reserve mate.

It does seem a bit odd that it's got no build plate- even the rivet holes have been filled and painted. Even more dodgy that 3 numbers off the VIN have been ground off. Can anyone say "Re-birth"?? Anyone can stamp a different car's VIN on the strut tower, especially if they are a race/rally only car!!

Guys, its a 100% legit yellow plated EVO III. I checked the rego papers and paid for an RTA History report on it and the history and chassis and engine numbers check out.
Like PROGSR stated above, it has the yellow plate on the firewall and the last 4 numbers of the VIN/Chassis number stamped on the top of the 'DRIVERS' strut tower (not passenger tower like the Aussie cars have). On either side of the 4 numbers on the driver's strut tower is a specially stamped Japanese symbol of some kind which I suspect would be to stop any additional numbers being added on either end of it.
The RTA history check records that it was imported and first registered in NSW in June 2005 by the original owner. It was then sold to the current owner who has owned it for just over 5 years. It also states that it has only ever had 2 owners since 2005 - the report checked out when I questioned the seller about its history.
You know me, I know these cars like the freckles on my wife's back  I went over it with a fine tooth comb trying to debunk it, but no matter how hard I tried I couldnt find any evidence to suggest otherwise.
Therefore my wife and I found ourselves presented with a very rare opportunity to purchase a genuine NSW rego EVO III and may never get an opportunity like this again for... well..... probably never again. So after giving it the thumbs up, my wife said fuk the 380 VRX we looked at earlier in the day and bought the EVO III before the EBay auction ended B)
The seller was looking for $16-17k for it and would never have settled for the price it ended on EBay for. I guess he didnt cancel the auction but he did state that he reserved the right to end the auction early if it sold outside of Ebay.
I guess that makes her the 3rd owner since 2005. She has gained some extra street cred amongst my friends now so it looks like her Ralliart Magna will be up for sale soon :)

You goto get some decent pics up of it after a nice cut n polish, i think the only thing it might need is another front splitter unless you can clean up the 1 on it

The car looks way better in person and its drives sooo smoothly ;)

Ahh you're a bastard Rob!
Congrats to you and your wife, sounds like a bargain price for such a rare vehicle!
Who's got the better car now?

My AWD coupe is still shitloads better than a stock EVO III anyday
This now effects what is going to happen with my coupe. I think Im going to have to de-tune it and start using it as my daily

UPDATE: We received an email from V-imports Insfrastructure Branch today after we requested a copy of the Letter of Complaince when we questioned the non-fitment of a Compliance Plate to the EVO III.

====================================================================

Dear Mrs ***********

I am sending you a letter today which confirms the Vehicle Import Approval details for your vehicle.

When a vehicle is imported under the Personal Imports Scheme it is not required to be fully complied which is why it has its special yellow sticker stating that the vehicle is a Personal Import. Hence there is no compliance plate fitted to the vehicle and it does not need to be.

Before a vehicle is issued with a Personal Import plate is must satisfy a registration and safety test as the State/Territory regulations. Two certificate are then signed: one is posted to Niddrie Nameplates who make up the plate and the other goes to the Registration Authority to allow registration. The owner does not keep this certificate and we do not keep a copy here. We are only responsible for the issuing of the import certificate, but not registration.

A vehicle imported under this scheme does have a Statement of Compliance or a Letter of Compliance as it is not required.

The letter I have sent you should be sufficient for you to get your vehicle registered.

Regards

Sue Adam
