@BMGTZ. Is that the Green one ???

@ Romeo. It’s nice but Yeah bit much for a GSR with a fibreglass kit and a closed door paint job.

Hard to know where prices are at the moment. Gut tells me that the market for these cars is very small. Likely only members of this forum lol.

When people with TMEs are asking $50k, whats a nice genuine 1-3 worth?

There is definitely a premium for yellow plate cars, but what happens in a few years time when they're available for historic rego and you can import them without the need for a yellow plate? Does that mean the yellow plate premium disappears?

They aren't worth that much at all, unless it's a real enthusiast. But the enthusiast market is very small..to everyone else they are just another old shitbox.

Yep. Pretty much. My 3 sat on carsales for >12 months.

Well hopefully the prices go up! I keep telling the Mrs they will when ever she gets on my back about selling mine lol
LOL. You and me both :D

yes but the car is a dog to be honest. Ive seen it before current owner bought it. I offered 4k
That's the problem with "project" spec cars.

The amount of money in the paint/body and/or mechanical work quickly adds up and makes a car that needs work worth very little.

I wouldn't be holding my breath waiting for that...as mentioned above...they will be eligible for historic rego soon and will be worth even less then I think, due to being easier to get one.

  I always thought that cause not many had been made it would slowly push the price up!
Ah well I will keep telling the boss that lol

Easier to import something yes, finding a good example will be very hard. Try finding a good 5/6/6.5 in a condition they where coming here 10 years ago, let alone an Evo 1-3.

I just had a quick look at the last 3 months of vehicles sold in Japan, discounting rust issues, 13 R Grade and 4 non R Grade. When a good one comes along, you know it was good because it goes for 2-3x the price of a junker. Let's say we would be able to import them today without them having to be personal imports, we've found a decent Evo 3, paying all the fees associated with importing/compliance, you'd already be looking at $25k+ for a good one. A good way to see how the early evo market is doing is by checking how things are going in NZ.

IMO, had so many early evos not been chopped up so early on in their life, prices would be going up faster due to interests from other markets where they are now eligible for import. How can something go up fast if you can't hype the masses especially with something that almost doesn't exist? Just check how many R32s go through auctions vs early evos. So yes, they will go up but at a different pace to the newer models due to availability.

Great summary. I've been watching NZ prices for the past few years as an indicator because I didn't have access to the Japanese auction values.

The US cars I've seen on instagram lately seem a bit rough and the prices (including dealer mark up) seem to be ~US$15k. NZ prices seem to translate to >A$20k. The cars in the UK seem to be really rough and particularly rusty.

I think those left in Australia are probably the pick of the bunch. Most are by now in long term enthusiast ownership and there's generally no rust here like in other markets. But the values here don't reflect the values in NZ, Japan or (potentially US if demand picks up like GTRs).

In relation to numbers left, as a starting point its firstly impossible to know exactly how many were made! There's only internet speculation of around 5000 of E1,2, and 3. But when you look at vin numbers, my E1 is in the 6000s! So no idea what that implies the number made is.

Ultimately, we can agree the of genuine number left is generally low. But I wonder how many people really lust for an E1-3 vs other more numerous JDM classics such as Supras, GTRs, etc.

Key question is: if a TME 6.5 is a $50k car, what does that make a good E3 worth, given that was a key WRC car, and supposedly the version of the early cars that everyone likes?

Prices in Japan are free for anyone to see, there are many places where you can check them, I know I've sent you a pic from one of the sites in the past.
Production numbers aren't hard to check if you have ASA, download a copy and have a play.

Evo 1 - 7899 units
Evo 2 - 6582 units
Evo 3 - 10431 units
Evo 4 - 13453 units
Evo 5 - 8007 units
Evo 6 8391 units
Evo 6.5 TME 3399 units

Everyone has their favourite model of Evos/90s JDM but if it's an investment then wouldn't you pick the one that will go up the most? TME was always one of the favourites in the investment category along with GTR/Supra/FD Rx-7.

Thanks for posting!

Will check my DMs too.

My favourites are the early cars, even though the later ones probably drive better / are faster / better brakes etc. For me the 3 and TME are the best of the breed given the link to the WRC wins.
