Just wanted to know what EBC people run, if they have heard good/bad things about any. And where they have mounted them in their VR4s?

Cheers

EBC = Electronic Boost Controller yeah??

The G/F's WRX runs a Greddy Profec B II with pretty good results, however personally I will be running the Greddy E-01. My mate has the E-01 in an S13 and he is pretty happy with it. The E-01 gives better adjustability, whereas the Profec B II doesn't have as much adjustability, but for people that don't have the knowledge to use the higher functions of the E-01, its a good safe guard. My G/F can operate it to change between high and low boost and thats all she needed.

I also like the screen for the E-01!!

I have a profec e01 and its good, hits the perfect set boost wanted

and shows you boost with revs graphs, and its recordable with a memory card

Cheers for the replies, My only probelm is where to mount the screen? I am trying to keep things lookin kinda stock...

I didnt need to use one in my old VR4, the ECU controlled it via a bosch boost solenoid....

onw less thing to buy then :D (EBC)

I have a field sf-hbc.. it's tiny and has many neato functions that I have not been allowed to play with :( things like 0-100 time, rpm counter, also it has fuel trim capabilities.. anyway, it's so small it will fit in the sunglasses holder thing underneath the dash on the right side. Originally I was going to use it to put my wallet in, but I don't want to get defected again so it's going in there :D

Problem with dre and barrys setups is you can only have one boost setting and fast and the furious style high boost is way cool.

And being able to adjust the boost without a laptop in hand would also come in handy i would think.

Apexi AVC-R... nice looking unit, excellent quality and you can fit it in one of the spare DIN (stereo) unit so its off the dashboard and out of the sun and preying eyes. They are a nice silver unit with blue LCD screen. They can display several things on screen at once like boost (in bar only, not psi), rpm, speed, injector cycle, throttle and can even replay graphs from the built in memory. You can set it up to run a certain amount of boost per gear too! For $650 or so they are worth it. I've installed quite a few in people's cars (only 5 or 6 wires) and they work great - no issues from any install, the Apexi does the job well  BTW they also now come in black 8)

Highly flexible boost control with revolutionary new functions; Vacuum Fluorescent Display (VFD).
The Super AVC-R is the premium closed-loop electronic boost controller on the market. The AVC-R allows flexible control over virtually every aspect of boost control and adds new innovative functions such as injector pulse monitoring and gear specific boost control. Some key functions include: RPM-based boost and solenoid duty cycle control, scramble boost, self learning mode, 2D ghost map trace mode, analog display mode, real time replay and peak hold data modes. The AVC-R utilizes an ultra-fast microprocessor and a high quality solenoid valve to control boost. The result is ultra-fast response and accurate, stable boost control.

I quite like the new Blitz SBC I-Colour as it's a great looking unit, colour screen and has a lot to offer. Featuring a 65,000 colour display, and a screen that can be flipped so that it can be mounted in different positions, the SBC i-Colour employs a twin solenoid design for ultimate boost control up to 2.5bar. The head unit can display a multitude of readings including boost, power and torque, speed and rpm. With the relevant sensors fitted (available seperately) the unit can also display oil/water temperature, oil/fuel pressure, and air/fuel ratio. All this funtionctionality means that many gauges can be combined into one unit, especially useful for those with limited dashboard space.

I had that in mind, are you saying they are 1 standard DIN??

do they come with mounting brackets for mounting in the dash like that??

The Apexi's come with a small and weak alloy stand in the box that you can mount on top of dashboards but people who have done this soon find the stand snap from vibration. You can easily make up a stronger one or mount them in a spare DIN unit - they are not full sideways DIN size so you have to be a little creative, black plastic or stianless steel/alloy backing perhaps?. Again you will have to make up a bracket or fiddle around with it but they do fit in the DIN  I seen one in a WRX that was cut into one of those black plastic pockets in the DIN units like a sunken effect - looked good.

Example of a place to mount an Apexi on an MR2 (left), and where I've been mounting them in CC GSR/EVO/Coupes etc (right) which is actually slightly angled toward the driver - a few washers can make it angle more 8)

Yeah I suppose the longevity of the stand will also depend on the roughness of the ride of the car as well. If you had stiff suspension and 18" 35 profile tyres you'd feel every bump in the road and it would weaken a stand quicker

its totally mappable mate...
just like timeing / fuel.. u can adjust boost the exact same way..
