hey guys,

ive accidentally spillet some rust converter on my ecu :( its a meek chipped one. ive got a couple of ecu's lyin around but apparently only a GSR one can be chipped.

is there a way of telling if its a gsr one or not by the codes?

cheers

mike

take the ecu out of the car... take of the front case and see if it has eprom... you are looking for the chip in the bottom right corner like the one below... both gsrs and evo ecu's can be chipped, but they need to have eprom...

and heres one without eprom just so you know what you are looking for...

apparently (although i can not confirm but it does seem pretty logic) is that if the ecu has eprom it will have an E on the outter casing as the pic below... of course this will not be entirely accurate as these casings can be changed...

im assuming that you want to replace the chip in to a different ecu??? if you were running a gsr ecu on a 2L conversion i dare say that you'd be best to find another gsr ecu with eprom...

what u mean clutz?

as in a nick in another forum?

nah, i just use this one in all forums :) heheh.

i checked my ecu's i got lying around and they all have the eprom chip.

Hi guys, brand new to this site and have a very basic question that I can't find an answer to, where is the ecu ? , the book I have is useless. I have a 93 GSR.

As above.
Get your head under there.
only have to remove that bottom plastic piece under the glove box, and you can remove the ecu quite easily with a spanner.
