Hey guys, I have a single board eprom ECU that was loaned out, and then loaned out again and now doesnt work.

Does anyone know where i can take it in to get looked at, and also get the cap's replaced if its still fixable??

cheers

have the caps leaked onto the board yet?

if not it should be repairable,

automotive computer engineering in braeside

or injectronics in hallam should be able to fix it

the caps havent leaked, but there's a wire that looks like its supposed to be connected to something, thats not. it may have leaked a little juice on the board as there looks like a lilttle bit of damage around the caps

i'm no pro when it comes to ECU's, what do you think?

the wire thats not connected is probably the reason why its not starting the car, but I want someone to take a look at it before I go and throw it in the bin, and buy another one.

the eprom is for 450cc, 1g MAF, speed/fuel cut removed, VR4 EVO RS maps, and is better than the single board non eprom thats in the car now.

*UPDATE*

I just dug out a pic of the ECU that I had stashed away on my old HDD, and it clearly shows that there's no red wire on it, before I leant it out!!

and check out the sticker on the Eprom- its different!!!

someone's tried to do the dodgy on me!!

they're not on the forums much, but they've recieved a pm from me with a link to this thread and did not reply- that in itself is pretty much guilty as charged.

i'll get on his case, hopefully they can be a man about it and just admit they were in the wrong- so we can call bob, get him to build us a bridge, so we can all get over it.

yeah, thats the ECU that came with the car adrian. I kept it for a rainy day- but looked what happened.....

on another note- has anyone tried using JDM spec eproms in their A-spec ECU's??

So this is your spare ecu, and you've let people borrow it twice as good will and now got it back not working and you have the before and after pic's... hrm.

The problem with the board to my eyes is...

A. Three capacitors all need to be changed.
B. Corrosion on two IC's and one resistor.
C. Red wire soldered on may have shorted something but can be removed.
D. Looks like that IC has been swapped over with some other chip which may or may not have data?
E. I think the entire board's have been swapped over with your original covers, not just the IC.

The good news is I think it can be repaired. Usually if anything goes wrong, theres a fuse placed somewhere.

The IC should be able to be reprogrammed. (I programmed Atmel 8051s at tafe few years ago, fun stuff when it works, I assume eproms are no different)

As for the red wire, not sure where that goes. Sometimes wires are used to jump tracks. Sometimes tracks can disappear or not make continuity and a wire is used.

I could try repair it for you at work during my lunch break but not sure how you'd test it....

If you look at the grease marks next to the '6182' on the part where you connect the plugs into the ECU, you can see they are identical.

Thats what has lead me to believe that its the same ECU, just been tampered with.

Im definately keen to get it fixed ASAP

If anyone can point me in the right direction then that would be great

thanks

How much is it costing? Would it be worth the 40km drive out there?

Do they actually do the repair themselves, or do they sublet the job out to someone else?

I just dont want to pay someone to try and fix it, and then find out they cant.

*EDIT* just sent them an email, am waiting on a reply
