Just wondering if anyone knows a place that'll socket my Evo 3 ecu and move a jumper. I need it ready for ECM link. But don't wanna ship it to America. I'm sure there is someone local that can do it :) in in melbs

I had Springy motors do mine. I'm sure there are a few other places if thats too far for you.

Not in Melbourne...I had my two done at Meek Automotive...Cost me around $385 all up if I remember rightly..
You post it to them they get it sorted and post it back.

on my receipt it says install ECM and dyno tune, doesnt say how much just for the socketing (03) 9546 8777 give them a ring and ask might be the best bet.

Yeah. Will do. Coz aparently it's only a 20 min job. I read up how to do it. But Ive never done circuit welding. Just wires

Just take it to a electrician who deals with circuit boards, JAYCAR can prob do it or recommend someone

Oh that makes a lot more sense. Ha ha :) I'll get a few quotes and post up prices in case other people need work done :)

Yes, to replace all caps and make sure it works fine, plus a new eeprom plus writing the chip

Meek charges $90 to write chips

^ Ummm. I don't think that's correct..I had my chip re written/ re mapped two weeks ago and paid only $40

Chris and I did several fly bys whilst logging my car to make sure everything was right too after having the chip re written twice to try different maps to get the car running perfectly all I paid was $40 ?

I had Troy(Burnzy) do mine. Very happy. You should get him to socket and tune for u too. He is a member on here and have socketed and tuned heaps of Evos.
He's located in Springvale.
Send him a pm. His link:

If you were in SA i could do it for you I have done about 20 of them(VR4s and EVOs) now, Im an electrician who works a lot with electronics. Your best bet to get it done locally would be an appliance/TV repair shop because they normal have an Electronics Technician onsite and they will have a proper vacuum desoldering station which makes it a quicker and neater job.
To put a socket, Move the jumper and change capacitors normally takes me all up about an hour thats including removing and reapplying the conformal coating on the circuit board and using a vacuum disoldering station.

I reckon socket the isc chips too. Ic105 and ic106. If ever you blow a isc driver, it will be very easy to replace. I have thought about fusing the driver outputs too, so as to protect the board itself from damage by burnt tracks

Good idea with the fuses. I probably wouldn't put a socket in them until I blow one and have it out though. I m lazy hahaha.
