ECU sugestions for 89 vr4 jspec

4GTuner

Help Support 4GTuner:

street or track?

Evo 6 plus ecu's are flashable but can require afm etc. Mods can be done to remove but it just means more work.

Aftermarket recommendations would be the usual candidates:
Autronic/Motec/Link/Vipec/Haltech.

I would compare prices, compare features and install price then look at what your chosen tuner is experienced with and take it from there.

The ECU/ tune/ performance will be dictated by you and your tuners ability.

its going to be street and track more so the track before long its just not that practical anymore for a daily . I was looking at the g4 link but as you said baz the tuner is the next bit
Jack being from perth do you know of any good tuners ? Only place i will refuse to deal with is RPW. We have an awd dyno in my town but its above ground and the owner says my vr4 wont make it up.

My $0.02.

Stay away from Haltech if you don't like RPW and are in WA. I couldn't find a tuner that had any experience on them and had an AWD dyno. There is nothing wrong with the ECU itself, and infact I think they are excellent value for money, particulary the Platinum Sport range a true plug and play option. I was told about a guy named Mike Ward, but he was hard to contact and didn't seem so keen. Jack reminded me that Simon at GTI performance does Haltech but he doesn't have an AWD dyno, but he may go to one for the money.

If you go with any of the others that Baz named, there are a good few options. I only know the guys NoR but you have Race Torque, Maximum Performance, All Star Garage, Tokyo (SoR) and some others.

My only experience is Race Torque and they are good blokes. They said straight up that they don't do Haltech, but were fine with me renting the dyno and a babysitter all for a standard price. If you see the cars that they look after in drift, dirt and tarmac, they must be doing something right.

Worth talking to a tuner first, then select your ECU. Unless your going to tune yourself, the only thing you need to worry about is that your tuner likes your ECU, youll just know its there.

I will have a plug and play Wolf V500 for sale shortly, already tuned to suit VR4 4G63 with Cyclone, 20g and 560cc injectors- 217kw atw on 18psi. My old VR4 ran a 12.5@109 on 202kw atw. I could even supply the 560cc injectors too. This setup cost $2300 and is only 2 years old. PM me if you're interested- i'll be letting it go pretty cheap

I do agree with the others though, r.e pick your Tuner first- here's a list of guys who tune Wolf ECU's in W.A

My first thought was the g4 link but ill see what my mate thinks hopefully ill be able to take CLuTZ up on his offer and my mate can do the tuning for wolf , he is a it expert so I'm sure he could manage it

I think he is talking about me lol. I wrote his current tune.

Croket, HI!!

Why you no likey the stock ecu with the chip? Only reason that I can think of is getting rid of the afm?

The wolf v500 won't be an issue to tune, I had a v400 in my ra28 and gt4. The v500 is heaps better.

Clutz, does the v500 have knock control / sensing?

Hey you finally on here again !!! i like it but im just thinking of the future and yeah getting rid of the maf too, im almost close to getting box sorted and hopin to pull engine before christmas to do those couple little things. Now the gto is ohh so close to being done im thinking of doin stuff to vr4 its getting less streetable now the suspension is startin to annoy me a bit hahaha

Plus im going to need some more power extracted if i plan on trying to keep the rear of your gto in view!!!!!
