Just installed a Haltech TC4 EGT setup

what are normal temps for idling running etc (i'm running e85)

cold when first installed i had 16* 16* 15* 16* which i though was pretty good and close

when it warmed up and Idling I had 1 & 3 were like 430* and 2 & 4 were only 386*

I havent driven it yet. will do tomorrow - not sure what to expect - maybe the heat cycle with sort things out?

I want to get each cylinder even in fueling (had problems in the past - burnt piston, lans letting go - but no signs of det. etc)

tried adding 10% fuel trim on cyl 1 but only seem to drop temps down by 10 odd degs. and 10% fuel trim is F'n huge on a 2200cc injector

the car runs full seq injection & ignition with 4 ind. coil packs and ignitors. all probes were fitted in exactally same position in each runner at a depth of 5.5mm into the runner as per instructions from haltech.

so the 1&3 2&4 difference thing was a little perplexing (thinking of wasted spark days)

I dont think the intake manafold design would be out that much to make that much difference.
all injectors are new and the engine is nice and fresh 2000ks maybe

anyone running EGT's advice I'm all ears!!

I was running 1 why on my setup. Just purchased 4 x egt for my new setup for the same reason... Cylinder trims.. Did you test the sensors first?

Not sure how good the haltec setup is but I will be testing mine although they are meant to be matched already.

To test, bucket of ice water, put all sensors in the water to measure, should all be zero. Note the variation between sensors somewhere for software offset settings. Do the same boiling water. Then installs sensors with appropriate offset settings.

Regardless, your differences are too significant. I'd just trim all injectors until you get match egts.

Keep in mind your 2200s are like a tap at that low duty.... Did you have the injectors matched? What spray pattern?
Maybe they'll even up on a higher duty?

Keen to see results. I'll share mine once I finish my setup!

same looking sensor!
and yes surpposed to be matched
injectors matched too they are ID2000's

I was thinking of checking them too but concidering they run normally 400* to 900*
I thought 10* to 100* wouldn't be much of a calibration

I was thinking about doing a nice long cruise on the hwy and trimming the injectors that way. also I can log with all other sensors with the haltech so it might give me a better idea on the injector trim vs EGT vs A/F

have put a post on the Haltech forums too to see the responce.

just an update : cant really trim the injectors on light load using the EGT's

under load they all come into line (more or less)

what differences are the norm across the 4 pots. 10degs 20 degs 50degs
I'm finding i have sometimes 30* difference on one cyl. (normally colder)

AFRs are good??

anyone else using EGT's on all cyls?

most of the time it is 700 - 800 but i have seen 850 at 7500 at 20psi AFR's were 10.9 so I'm noy too worried
and as soon as you pick the next peg they drop back to 750.

just with my ID 2200cc injectors the temps are all over the joint until you load them up hard.

like #3 is hot 50+ deg hotter then all the others at cruise to say 5psi then as load increases it moves into line and sometimes it might be 10deg cooler at the end.
I know WOT and max load is when they should be spot on.

So i'm trying to trim them at high load coz thats normally when things go BANG!

also not sure if E85 makes much of a difference in temps neither.

Have you tried adding a bit more timing to see if the exhaust temps drop (not sure how much you are running now though?)

How did you go with this? I just ran mine. Numbers all over the place also.

Might move the sensor and see if it temps follow.. Or switch injectors and see if that makes a difference...

I'm running 235 lbs injectors (approx 2350cc). 100 Ron fuel. Would be better on e85. Injectors are at 1 percent duty. 1.4ms.

Egt difference

Running afr of a crazy 19.5:1 at idle

Worth speaking to Mark Boxel at GT PUMP's as he was one of the guys that designed and did all the product development on it and is a wealth of information on Haltec ecu's. GL with it.

yep helps sort out funny cylinder issues.

had a chat with Matt from haltech about other unrelated things, but asked him anyway about the egt numbers
He said get it to running temps with a nice stable idle EGT's will be somewhere around 400 ish or so and adjust the depth of the probes so that they all read as close to equal as possible. this should give you a fairly close matched value.

the only issue i have would be cam size and exhaust flow rate at idle as mine isn't stable due to big cams and cam timing. in saying that I guess lift the idle up to 2000rpm and gas flow should be more stable (equal) so I should be able to adjust the depth and get a better result.

I do find at WOT they seem to get a lot closer to equal. - originally I installed them to be with in .5mm difference between them. but as we all know most exhaust mani's aren't perfectly even in the runners.

O and yes the temps can down when I added timing up top. about 4 more deg (running eflex E75)

yep, a big issue with e85 is some tuners are scared to run enough timing which causes sky high exhaust temps,
the temp probes will certainly help you know if you dont have enough timing in it

Iv also found exhaust manifold design also can effect the temp if its not all similar length and design. The last 200L of fuel flex I got from brisbane a few weeks ago was E80, have you been testing it?

yep at the moment it is still primarily E70 with I would guess a top up of E80-85 giving around the E75 rating
As soon as I get a firmware upgrade from haltech (due end of ths month) I can run my flex fuel sensor which means once tuned properly It wont be
as big an issue in testing every batch as the sensor will show me what rating and adjust the tune for it.

just off hand what timing are most of you running for eflex/E85 at psi vs ign timing at say 5500 and 7500

seriously dont think i have much in there i've only got like 16Deg at 7500 @ 20psi
I've heard numbers of 20 being thrown around. (yes yes every car is different)

might shove it on a general post. just for interest

Another update!

950 = bad
820 - 830 = normal

currently pushing hi 800's sometimes so i keep adding timing and temps are dropping
i'm up to 17deg at 24psi at 7500 (on e85)
it is getting more on the scary holy shit, my knuckles are going white! way of things now.
seriously I think it needs to get onto the dyno

unfortunatly without a reliable knock detection setup I'm not sure where the "go bang" mark is. bloody thing will probably put a leg out of bed before I find knock anyway.
thats the only problem with e85 - if there was one. Bang B 4 Knock

you will be lucky to hit knock on e85, if your brave and the exhaust temp is still dropping your hitting the sweet spot, if it strats to go up again your possibly running too much
