Hey guys

So I've done my Evo 3 loom swap (engine and interior), the only GSR part left is the harness that goes from the fusebox, over the cluster, and down to the ciggy lighter/ashtray (didn't come with my harness). Also don't have the key illumination ring yet.

Everything seems to be working correctly, climate control appears fine, dash too. However for some reason, I've lost my dome light's auto functuonality.. Works fine when in on/off position, just doesn't turn on when you open a door.
The open door dash light also doesn't work.
However, the buzzer works fine when you open/close the doors.
Oh, and the buzzer doesn't work if you leave the headlights on with the key off like it used to with the GSR buzzer (not sure if the Evo had this function or not)

Ideas?
 
I reckon you have missed a ground wire or a 12v wire. Put a multimeter on the door trigger and you should see 12v. The other side of thr switch needs to go to gnd (chassis when the door is open).

You are missing one of these.

The dash lights also work with a 12v trigger (not gnd).

Does your car start? I have just finished mine off (haven't put the dash back in yet because I didn't want to have to pull it back out if it didn't work).

Same thing, some light not working automatically, the buzzer actually had no spot to plug back in. Door light not working on dash. And extra things...

Car won't start, no power at fuel pump, haven't checked for spark yet.

Ignition works, car cranks, climate control works, don't have a stereo in atm so can't check that.

Just went to check and see if the headlight buzzer works and discovered when I turn my headlights on there's an awful whine/buzz from the engine bay fuse box and the abs and check engine lights come on (with key off).

I'm gonna make my own thread as not to hog yours but just thought you might want to check those items too.
 
Engine only just went in last night, so not quite ready to crank it, you've got me worried now.. :D
My radio works, and the buzzer is behind the radio attached to the vertical steel bracket (drivers side one). The Evo buzzer has a green plug from memory, it doesn't use the H4 type fitting because the buzzer is different to the GSR buzzer.
I had fuel flow when I "cranked" it (with no engine in). Did you plug in the mpfi relay, also behind the radio.

Yea pretty sure this is the buzzer

And it had nowhere to plug in on the jdm loom. Dunno what the jdm one looks like, I'll attach some pics at the bottom of this post.

Is this the MPI relay?

If it is, I never unplugged it, it has its own loom which went back behind the rubber on the firewall, I'm guessing it goes straight to the ecu?

Here are some pics of boxes and plugs that I don't know what they are lol. Can guess a couple but not sure.

Under rear seat, right hand side, rear fog lights maybe?


Under drivers seat, probs seatbelt warning?


Under centre console, must be intercooler sprayer


Under passenger seat, again seat belt warning light?


Edit: Must be the buzzer, just popped it open and it had a little speaker inside.Dangling down around the stereo area, jdm buzzer?



Single wire plug, same area as above, no idea.


Blue plug, same area as above, no idea.


White plug, same area as above, maybe stereo?


Above one of the ac boxes under dash, plug on the left is on the loom, plug on the right goes to that metal box behind. Had a metal tube going down into black box, maybe temp sensor or something, plugs don't match up though.



4 pin plug over by ecu, old loom had nothing there, there's nowhere for it to go?


Edit: this is the mirror switch, they must have sold the switch and plug together previously. I should be able to make my old plug/ switch work since I'm not using folding mirrors anyway. These wires are missing their plug, this is over near the ignition, runs in the same direction as ignition switch plug.


Same spot as above, guessing ignition illumination or something.


This relay looking thing is hanging down under steering column, dunno what it is.


Same area as above, googled the p/n, think it might be mirror controller.
 
Also just discovered my wipers don't work and they dim the climate control when switched on...

Have checked all fuses and all are ok. Have gone back over all connections and grounds, everything appears good

The plugs under the seats; first one is seat belt warning, second is I think heated seats.

I don't think the one near the ABS sensor is suppose to be plugged into anything.

Pretty sure the blue one is for the power mirrors, the mirror switch is on the lefthand side of the column, not near the ignition switch.

The black box is the mirror controller.

Mirrors were definitely on the right hand side, I chipped my plug off and matched the wires up to those missing the plug. Mirrors adjust, obviously don't fold as they aren't folding mirrors and I left those wires out.

Have tested my mfi relay and followed this wired diagram

Pin 4 & 8, The 2 black/ yellow have constant power.
Pin 7 gets power with ignition on.
Pin 3 is getting power on ignition. (Which means the ecu should be too)
Pin 2 is also getting power on ignition. (Which means sensors and injectors etc should be too)
Pin 6 - pointing a test light into this pin caused the relay to click and the test light lit up very dim but only with ignition off
Pin 5 - pointing a test light into this pin caused the relay to click and fuel pump to work and the test light lit up very dim but only with ignition on

Not really sure what going on here.

Anyone with a jdm gsr or evo 1-3 can you please go see what my unplugged plugs go to on your cars?

Might be easier for me to put my loom back in and cut the climate control stuff from the jdm loom and lay over the top?
 
OKAY part of my issue is fixed. Car wouldn't start because when I pulled the ecu out at the beginning of this exercise I swapped the chip over (new chip may have a fault or wasn't written to yet). I pulled the ecu back out, swapped back to my old chip and the car starts now :) :)

Now the issues are dwindled down to-

Dome light not auto
Door light in dash not working
Headlight buzzer not working
Headlights make some dash lights come on and weird noise in engine bay
Wipers not working

Again all fuses ok, all grounds screwed down, all plugs plugged in bar those in pics

Gold box: MPFI Relay
Under rear seat, evo has an extra plug that goes in that plastic holder, im assuming for foglights and spoiler
Under drivers seat, im going to go with door switch (Behind bottom of seatbelt)
under centre console, Intercooler spray
under passenger seat, pretty sure thats for the exhaust temp sensor in the cat
Gray box, evo buzzer
Single wire plug, is it blue? If it is, my harness had it too, no fking clue what it's for..
The blue plug is either rear wiper switch (left of steering wheel where coin holder is), or steering column, ive forgotten.
White plug, stereo plug, use APP0111 from Aerpro to adapt to aftermarket radio.
The two plugs near the evaporator box, do you have the evo boxes, or non climate control GSR ones?
Pretty sure youre correct on the ignition illumination, i have the same plug there, not plugged in
relay hanging from column is for foglights


If your wipers dont work, that blue plug must be steering column then, not rear wiper switch.
Mirror switch is on the right hand side of the column, in the same place as the GSR switch, it just has an extra rocker to fold the mirrors.
also, handbrake light in dash wont work, you need to shift the pin. Once you do that it'll be fine :)

The blue plug is either rear wiper switch (left of steering wheel where coin holder is), or steering column, ive forgotten. Isn't steering column, unless evo column is different? Because there was another plug which did plug into the steering colomn, and it was green the same as the old loom. Blue must be rear wiper as you said.

interesting, my harness didnt have that plug for the seatbelt sensor/heater, didnt think evos had either.
because your plugs for the AC are different, im not sure if itll work without being plugged in or not :/
Ill have a look for that blue plug this evening on mine and see where it goes.
The pin for the handbrake light is on the left plug, bottom row of pins (of the two plugs that the speedo pushes onto)
I cant remember exactly where, I think I shifted it two places. Basically, look at the handbrake switch wire, then look at the speedo cluster plug, find that same coloured wire. Then look at your GSR cluster's circuitboard on the back, follow the trace for the light back to the socket (pretty sure it says H/Brake next to the trace), and move the wire in the plug so it matches where the trace is on the cluster. Mine had a wire in that spot already (no idea what for, i just moved it to a trace that isnt used on the gsr cluster, or disconnect and tape up i guess)

ah ok cool, will do that. Could that be the reason the door open light isn't working too?
 
Actually i didnt think about that.. Ill have to check. I was having a look at mine, seems like its not grounding correctly. But ill check the bulb wiring in the dash after work :)
