Went up a hill and leaned out. Developed a knock, so now I'm looking for the damage. Any advice on the easiest way to get the sump off?

Undo the bolts?

there are a number of ways.

the most sensible as above is to undo the bolts of anything that is "in the way"

others could include packing a headlight with Tanerite and shooting the headlight from a distance with a 338 lapua magnum. the effect of the resulting blast should allow easy access to the to the engine....if you can find it.

Was hoping there was a work around but upon finding a broken timing belt to go with the knocking I'm just dropping a 63 in

I'm not doing it personally, I gotta work, have no space and lack the tools so I'm just throwing money at it at this point.

93 in the bin 63 for the win id say

Sort of, found the problem, the timing belt tensioner bolt snapped. Knocking was the tensioner hitting shit as it bounced between the block and the timing cover. Might fix and sell it if it hasn't done too much damage. 63 is nearly in and then a tune and hopefully lasts awhile. Might keep the 93 as a spare

That sucks man I’ve had the same thing happen before but didn’t have a knocking sound just engine cut out @ 100 km/h , pulled over and noticed the cam belt had snapped ‍♂ I’d say it would have bent a few valves.

Belt didn't snap, car still ran until I turned it off, then the belt didn't grab when I turned it by hand. Has non interference flat tops and standard cams so I hope the clearance was enough, nothing touched when I was turning it by hand with the cams not rotating
