Hi All,

Was wondering if anyone could recommend a workshop in Perth to rebuild my 4G63t? Just don't have the time or space to rebuild myself (again)

I'm 99% sure that I have spun a bearing or two :fuuuuu: The engine had a noise to it when I started it up the other day and I just thought it was the lifter because it had been sitting for a few months. So today I decided to change the engine oil and filter because I had it booked in for a tune tomorrow but when I pulled the filter I noticed some glitter in the oil :( (time to cancel the tune)

So I cut open the filter and found more glitter....so now I know it's not lifter noise but bearing noise and ill have to pull the sump to determine how bad things are.

I'm weighting up my options to have someone else rebuild the engine or to sell up, would rather go for the first option tho.

Give Harris engines a call Mike. They never used to do the engine building, but of late the rumor is that he has a guy now that he is using to build them, and I think he is working out of a shop in Wangara so it's nice and close for you. From all accounts the builder is top notch. Not sure on the prices thou.

Thanks George ill give them a call tomorrow, I had a rough quote from RPW and they want about
4 grand depending whats stuffed in the block.

Its looking like I might cut my losses and sell up.

Mike, if you pull the engine, get it machined, I'm more than happy to put it together for you. Harris charged me about $1500 for a head rebuild, line hone, balance, bored 0.5 and a clearance. Would be well under $1000 if your head is ok. I'm pretty much set up now at home and if you are happy for a month or so turn around it would be no problem. Give me a call one day and have a chat about it if you want. I offer it as an option other than selling up anyway.

That opens up another option, dont really want to sell up but it just hard to find the time to work on
car with working away and having a GF who live in melbourne doesnt leave me much time in perth
Lol.

Not sure what went wrong with my build and why it has spun a bearing, I checked the clearances and all
was within spec. Ill drop the sump in the next few days and assess the damges and make my plans from
their.

Hopefully not to much damage lol.

Dont sell it you will hate yourself for it !!! And please dont go to rpw 6 spun bearings in glens gto and then they lost them aparently after that they tried to blame him saying he jacked it on the sump hahahaha

If youve ever seen the under side of a gto you will know thats impossible to do especially when the jack cant even get under the bumper !!!

It had only just done 1200kms and was on low boost run in tune , they wouldnt even do the right thing and repair for free even though they fucked it up.

Go with what george says , pulling vr4 engine is only 4 hour one person job , get a couple mates around and you would have it out and stripped down to short block ready to send out in a day

Well ive made the decision to keep my galant and rebuild it again but this time im going to get the short block built by a professional, dont worry Croket im not going to get it built by RPW.

I've sent an email to Performance Modification in Malaga for a rough quote to have the short block built and checked over so that i can built it back up.

So the plan is to pull the engine Wednesday next week and ship it out to Performance Mod on Thursday to start the short block. I havent taken the sump off yet to see how much or if their is any damage to the crank and with a bit of luck its repairable but if not then i might look at a stroker.

Your right Croket i would hate myself if i sell it when i've spent alot of time and effort on the best

Thanks George, hopefully I won't need it Lol. I should know more on Wednesday when I strip the motor down, just need to organize a engine crane when I get back to Perth to lift the engine out.

This time I'm going to triple check everything and maybe start a thread so that you guys on here can let me know if I'm doing it wrong or miss something :)

Borrow my crane if you need to. Be nice to have the fucking thing out of my way for a few weeks!

Yeah mate, will fit in ute no problems. Just touch base with me when your back in town and we can sort it out.

Good to hear your gonna fix it up mike , you wont regret it :)
We are doing a stroker at the moment for the gsr cant wait to see how different it is to the 2L

Hi George,

I get back into Perth Tuesday night and I'm going to start stripping the engine out Wednesday so if I can pick the engine crane sometime on Wednesday that'll be great.

Easy Mike, Wednesday arvo after work is good, I'm home after 3.30. I'll PM my address. I got a couple of books that you should borrow as well.
