As some of you are aware, I recently purchased a Galant VR4 in need of some serious love to get it back on the road.

Because I already have another major project underway (and wayy too many cars in my yard ) I have decided not to go through with my intentions of putting the car back on the road myself.

What I propose- is that the car be developed into a club car for Team4G, and entered in different levels of motorsport- not only to represent the Team4G, but also our club sponsors and to possibly generate new sponsorship deals for the club.

As long as there is enough support and other parties are interested- i'm prepared to donate the car, time, spare parts and money into it to get it going (first of all ) and get it out there to get Team4G some exposure and also be reasonably competitive at entry level motorsport.

Good points on the car:

-3" Exhaust
-Near new decent clutch
-Custom paint job with shaved rear door handles
-External fuel pump setup (pump/surge tank not supplied)
-Car is complete (besides what it needs- read below)

The car at the moment is a rolling body. I'm not going to lie- it does need some work and parts to get it going again, but i'm confident that with the support of the major contributors of this forum, communication with Team4G's sponsors and also the generosity of the genuine Mitsubishi enthusiasts who are members of this club, we can get the ball rolling, with parts donations, technical support, labour and also possibly have organised 'working bees' over a beer, BBQ and laugh.

Parts it needs:

-Bottom end rebuild (with VR4 rods, possibly late model EVO pistons?)
-Head (found)
-Turbo (found)
-Exhaust manifold
-Intercooler
-Intercooler piping
-Fuel pump
-Surge tank
-ECU
-Engine wiring loom
-Springs/decent suspension (currently has chopped springs)
-JSPEC rear bumper (because the A-spec ones are oh so wrong)
-Boost gauge (found)

Modifications needed:

-4WS removed
-Interior removed
-Sound deadener removed

At this time it is strictly EOI- im just throwing some ideas out there to gauge some interest. If we get a green light with this, donations will not go un-rewarded! I am personally planning on getting a bunch of high quality brushed cotton american apparel t-shirts hopefully rolled out by the end of the year with DIE///STI 'the spirit of obliteration' on the front and if I have permission to use it, 4gtuner.com on the back. they will be for sale to whoever wants one, with all monies raised to cover costs and also put towards the Team4G.com motorsport car :p

I look forward to peoples ideas and views!!!

Cheers

I'll be glad to put in a pair of hands whenever they are needed. I unfortunantly work alot of weekends and sometimes of weekdays as my weekends so i'll help out were ever I can. I think I have a fuel filter I can throw in (hahahahahaha) left over from the old DjB mobeal... Like I said, i'll help where ever I can... Actually now that I think about it, I might have my old (original) VR4 fuel pump still in the garage. Will have to confirm this..

ill fabricate the roll cage :)

Jon

Are you an approved roll cage fabricator ? Have Australian Standards in welding ? Might have to talk, if you are 8)

No and No..

BUT you dont have to be. you just have to build the cage and get it integrity checked out by CAMS.. i know alot of people who have built cages for their own race cars and they had no problems with the tech inspection as long as you follow the guidelines.

if the cage is made from cds or cdw steel it does not have to be tested only if its chrome moly. and as jon said you can make your own, its just the design that has to be passed.
then you just sign your life away on the rops form.

you know this motorsport car isnt going to be competitive or anything? more then likely its probably just going to be a drag car.. lol..

its not like there are any tree's hanginga round ;)

Jon

Ok guys.

I come from a offroad racing background, where CAMS mandated Australian certified quals required.

Maybe i should look into getting J or someone to re-make my cage in approved steel
