Modified cars hazard to people's health due to noise pollution?? Since when do people stand 550mm from a driving modified car (Thats the distance used to measure the sound level of an exhaust).

if it was such a big safety issue, they would be actively helping people meet these regulations rather than slap them with big fines. i've even had to book my epa inspection over a week in advance because they were just so busy with the amount of cars coming in.

I must admit, living right next to a main road has changed my perception on this issue.
My girlfriend and I can't relax in our own house, let alone spend any time in our own backyard, all because of traffic noise.

Most annoying of all is trucks constantly using their exhaust brakes (which they aren't supposed to do in "urban areas").

Next most annoying is the bikies, which the cops will never touch because they're shit scared of them.

Third most annoying is feral rednecks in V8 Dunnydores & Falcons.

Fourth on the list is dickheads with droning "cannon" mufflers they've gone and bought from Autobarn / Supercheap, etc and slapped on their Charade, stock Lancer etc.

Like you said though, the State governments don't give a rats arse about "safety", it's all about blatant revenue raising and vote winning.

The unfortunate facts are that alot of our cars are loud, BUT!!!!! Generally only when you have the go fast pedal down on the floor, not when driving normally. The police force will not care if your car is moderately loud, if your car "LOOKS" loud, then you will get slapped with something, and it may be in the mail. I have had this done in the past, Evo front bar, Shinny cooler, non factory wheels = Must be to loud, and this was measured in a 50zone, front on, doing 20km in traffic, from a distance of no less than 50m.

So be warned, if it "LOOKS" loud, epa, canary etc etc etc will follow.

I got slapped with an EPA notice a few years back when the farking car was PARKED :blink:. All they have to do is think your car is loud and you're gone.

There goes 2x whole days - 1x day stuffing around with the exhaust and 1x day spent stuffing around at the exhaust shop getting it tested.

If this is the case why dont they set up an EPA station out the front of the banditos, Hells angels and Comancheros club houses and book every truck driver that uses engine brakes in the Melbourne metro area at night?

Because its easier and faster revenue to shaft poor, tax paying, god fearing bastards like us.
