I might be looking at putting one of the evo 1-3 intercoolers onto my stock GSR engine and turbo.

Am I going to get any performance improvement or degradation, eg more lag ?

I am keen on an EVO front bar, but it doesnt look the same without the intercooler there, thus thnking of this option.

Seeing as the GSR Intercooler is pretty much a shoebox, and the Evo1-3 flow the best for standard intercoolers you'll more than likely get a gain out of the upgrade. :)

GSR Turbos spool quick, and the piping on the intercooler isn't to big. And the Intercooler unit itself is a good size. I woul;dn't think you'd get much lag. :)

when i was running the original 1.8 and TD04, i was running 15psi boost.

When I put an evo ii intercooler and piping on there was some noticeable lag down low.. but fk me i could feel a lot more pickup top end

thats just what i noticed personally- i cant speak in general

lag? on a TD04???

You won't notice any difference bar a slightly improved top end. Personally I think a modified E39A VR-4 i/c is better suited to a TD04 equipped GSR though. Will fit behind the bumper easier and with modofied in/outlets will support 300hp no worries.

Wont notice much of a difference, as the other guys have said, the GSR turbo spools so quickly, there is barely any lag

meh, maybe something else was wrong in the setup i had / or a dodgy install by the mechanic who chucked it in - but i did notice a loss down low and so did many others who jumped in
doesnt matter now though , that was back in 03.. happily running a 63 with big16g now :D

Thanks for the replies.

So general consensus is that there is no increase in lag, and a mild increase in top end. Now to find one.....

you really dont need one if its just for looks to complement an evo3 bar.

I had a gsr without a fmic, and a evo3 kit, and it looked awesome. The thing is you just need to paint all of your mesh black! Thats what makes the difference.

changing to an evo fmic made a huge difference on my gsr. tiny bit of lag but a big gain in top end. being in the tropics with all the heat up here its almost a must do.

Ok, so its all agreed the front mount adds performance. I think it looks better, but its not a necessity. But what else do I need ?

I was speaking with a wrecker ($650 for a front mount with piping) and they said I need radiator mounts etc as well. Does this mean I also need an EVO radiator ?

Thanks.

grab your self a evo or kr verada throttle body and piss off the tiny gsr one btw you will also need to port match the plenum face with the new throttle body gsr is smaller so around 3mm needs to be taken out on the plenum ie dremmelll if you dont have access to a mill.

no you wont need an evo radiator. use the factory evo piping and a v6 magna throttle body.may have to do a little triming for the piping hole on the drivers side of the car but thats about it.
