Hey guys trying to start my car after a few years off the road. Can get any fuel up the line. Gunna get a meter and check to see if the pump is getting power coz i cant hear it. Anywhere else i should look?

have you drained the fuel in the tank? was it rust color? these suffer for rust tanks pretty badly and the rust stuffs the pump and jams it.

take the pump out and have a look at it....just a tip. the high pressure line off the pump doesn't undo...you need to undo it further under the car :)

make it easy on yourself....if you don't have some of the ring spanner with the end cut out...get some.

they do work so well in this application.

while you are at it ...whack a walbro in.

nah it preety easy actualy. pull the centre fascia that surrounds the radio and the radio out then if you have cup holders unscrew those and there it is!.

Ok i have power back there. And after shearing the high pressure line off looks like its the pump. Anyone know where i can get another lid? Also what walbro is recomended as the basic replacement?

there is a guy on here that has a couple of fuel tanks for sale.....try him for the pump assembly carrier.

also check you tank for rust....when they sit for a while they rust badly.

I had the dreaded rust and crud in my fuel tank after the project sat dormant for a long time too. Fixed it up with a KBS repair kit - worked wonders. Read my link here: http://www.evocoupe.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=3984
The fuel pump cradle was FUBAR and a throw away, was replaced with another EVO cradle and Walbro pump :)
See attached pic of what happens to a fuel pump cradle and fuel tank if you have it sitting idle for years with a little bit of fuel left in the bottom of it - so many guys forget to check the condition of the tank during their projects
Also attached are pics of the insides of a fuel tank after the acid rust blast bath, zinc recoating and final coating processes are finished using the KBS products. The insides are recoated never to rust again ;)
Myself and a couple other of my mates who have used the KBS repair kit cant recommend it highly enough.

whilst the pump doesn't actually physically draw off the balance line..... because the the pump and the balance line are in the fuel tank "cup" area, the suction action of the pump starts a siphon effect. this is necessary for vehicles in slow moving situations where a fuel slosh cant be relied upon to refill{this refilling is caused by either slosh or centrifugal force} the side of the take that supplies the pump. this "cup" and single pump pick up point system negates the possible sucking dry that can occur when the vehicle is on sharp inclines at slow speeds should it use two pick up points. the balance line also retains fuel at the pickup during high speed turns turns where the fuel will be forced to the other side {passengers} of the tank. the centrifugal pressure forcing the fuel to the passenger side will also displace fuel under pressure directly through the balance tube and back into the cup.

Thanks. Well turns out the newer galants have the same lid. Cradle is a little different but it all works the same. You just have to tap the balance pipe line and its done. Cost me $40 to get the whole unit and pump as apposed to the $150+ i was looking at for the original parts when i could find them.

Just bumping up an old thread as I am in need of a whole fuel sender assembly for an E1.
I can get my hands on a 97 VR4 TT unit just wondering if anyone else has had luck with another cradle/sender?

New they are around the $900 mark!!
