EVO 1 roof

4GTuner

Help Support 4GTuner:

My uncle is a panel beater and when I spoke to him recently about doing the roof on my Evo, he reckoned that the way to go was with the panel bond stuff too.
He advised me though, to ensure a good bond-the panels had to be bare metal and get ALL of the old paint and whatever shit was on there off- ie both surfaces clean, shiny metal..wire wheel style!!

the way i do my proton roofs is to carefully cut the ribs out of the roof, clean out all the rust, treat it then weld the ribs back in... and use seam sealer to support the ribs... works amazing!!!

hey hey well fitted the new roof on saturday
all mating surfaces back to bare metal, squeezed on the proper 2 part black super sticky metal glue and applied seam sealer to supports, place roof in position,
used 3 temp fixing screws down each side and a gazzillion clamps and vice grips above the front and rear screen, put 1 tack / spot weld in each corner, and hey presto 24hrs later 1 roof stuck on like sh!t to a blanket, easy.............
next is paint, screens in and interior back together, then the TX valve and dryer to get the a/c running.........
anyone got any ideas on where to get the TX valve and dryer for an EVO1 GSR ??
I love my EVO.......................................

you will have to get a new dryer, they are replacement items and should be available. prob same across many mitsi models.
tx valve is like the thermostat on the air con, it controls the gas flow into the evaporator. it locates on the evaporater core and has a pipe from the condenser into tx valve then into condenser.

it is on the air con core inside the cabin. the thing with the capillary tube on it.
i have a gsr one, cant post pic till weekend tho, if you still stuck then.

pictures?

yep got a few pics but i wouldnt have a clue how to put them up with a post.

i will buy new TX and dryer, just looking for a good supplier
would dearly love 1 in Perth so i can take in and show.
the mitsi 400L [ i think ] van looked a close match in the pic I found online
I am hoping that when I get the TX valve out [not looking fwd to pulling that dash condenser etc out]
it has a part # on it!

hey hey my baby is just about all back together, painted the roof last sunday, thanks to Ian at Total Paint Supplies for a great colour match. glass back in on Tuesday, most of the trim, roof lining, seats etc back in great stuff. I will post pics soon, if someone can tell me how to do it! :D

Bringing back an old topic....

PR-PW534234 R WIND UPR $10.52
PR-MB696794 R WIND LWR $68.55

TOTAL>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> $886.65

My Evo goes in Monday week to get its roof sorted.....Cant wait!!

Yeah I was pretty happy with those prices...
The Evo has a sunroof in it at the moment and if I wanted to replace the roof with that in it, the skin alone was $954.80 (trade) or $1154 (retail)
So Ive decided to bin the sunroof once and for all and get it fixed without the hole in the roof as it will only cause me more dramas down the track (that was my way of reasoning anyway!!!! )

If anyone wants a complete sunroof setup cheap...PM me....

These photos show the FUCKED UP, DODGEY, SHIT job that a previous owner did to attempt to fix/hide the rust in the roof with bog...

Hi Andy,
Are you talking 450 for just the ROof panel?
And if you got this job done, are these all the parts to do the whole roof?
Is there anything missing?

Thanks
