Not entirely sure why running a 6 bolt would make any sort of difference? Does the AC pump bracket and passenger side driveshaft bracket not still bolt to the back of the 6 bolt block as normal? Don't think you run a different crank pulley either.3VOLUTIONIST said:Have any of you guys swapped a six bolt into a CC GSR and successfully retained the aircon? Would like to ask what parts you used so I can track down exactly what I need
Ive got the passenger side shaft and the 6 bolt block bracket, all fits up fine of course. But what I dont know is whether I have to use a six bolt compressor, because if I do, i'll need to figure out what lines to use or whether I'll have to make some from scratch. If it's possible to use the CE9A compressor (and therefore lines) it would make the job much more straightforward.EvoMayhem said:Not entirely sure why running a 6 bolt would make any sort of difference? Given that the only interaction between engine and compressor is a belt, I'd say engine choice is irrelevant.3VOLUTIONIST said:Ive got the passenger side shaft and the 6 bolt block bracket, all fits up fine of course. And also, which tensioner bracket I need to use. I'm guessing the one to match the block bracket. But I'm just guessing, that's why I'd like to ask someone who's actually done it
Yes, the six bolt tensioner bracket should bolt up fine if I use a six bolt AC bracket, as all of those components are 6 bolt.EvoMayhem said:Given that the only interaction between engine and compressor is a belt, I'd say engine choice is irrelevant.
So long as the tensioner bracket still bolts up, I'd say just use the existing AC system components. There's no reason I can see why you would need, nor want, to change any of it.
Im confused, what does a CC GSR Bracket have to do with this? the GSR AC parts are totally unuseable when doing a 4G63 swap, the compressor is in a totally different spot and the block is different.EvoMayhem said:You say you have a 6 bolt bracket, yes?
Bolt it to your existing engine. If it works, then the existing CC GSR bracket will bolt to the 6 bolt block as well, and will answer your question.
My bad, I just realised you're not from Australia, when we say GSR we generally mean Lancer GSR 1800 (4G93T). The compressor is where the alternator is on a 4G63T, so you cant reuse the bracket/compressor. They're totally wrong.EvoMayhem said:Right, let me get this straight.
All you currently have, is a 6 bolt bracket, and a CC GSR? You have neither any 6 bolt AC parts, nor any early Evo AC parts?
I take it that there is no one local to you that you could take that 6 bolt AC bracket to, to confirm it bolts to an early Evo AC compressor?
(I wasn't aware that the CC GSR compressor bolts anywhere other than the rear of the block, hence my confusion)

The question is whether I can use a seven bolt compressor on that bracket and therefore use Evo AC lines (which should fit straight into a CC GSR). If I have to use a six bolt compressor, then Ill need to look into getting new lines made up, as the two compressors use different fittings. (Eg, cannot use Evo 3 AC hardlines on Galant VR4 Compressor afaik)
I have no existing components, so I cant test fit anything other than the 6 bolt compressor bracket.
Its a 4G93T Lancer GSR, compressor is in a totally different spot. So my choices will be either 1. Track down evo AC lines or, 2. Get new custom ones made.
To answer your question- from what I can see it would appear that yes you can use the evo air compressor on the 6 bolt block then use your evo AC lines. The AC bracket is the same and the compressors bolt up the same-but that is assuming the brackets I have here are actually 6 bolt (i have some from off 6 bolt blocks). The bosses for the ac hoses are different between the 6 and 7 bolt but that's all I can see being different. I've got both compressors here and both types of blocks and a few brackets so if you need pics for confirmation let me know.
Worth noting that the rvr, even though a 7 bolt, has a different bracket and ac compressor to the evo 7 bolt and they cannot be interchanged, though the mounting bosses on the blocks are the same.
I've attached a photo of the Galant AC bracket (thats the part I have). I wasnt able to find a photo of the Evo bracket, but I remember seeing a photo of it, and unless someone had painted it silver, it appeared to be made from cast aluminium, which would make it pretty unique in your pile of parts I imagine.doo doo said:Yes, the six bolt tensioner bracket should bolt up fine if I use a six bolt AC bracket, as all of those components are 6 bolt.

Oh? The one I saw mustve been painted then. Thought that was unusualevo-gsr said:The Evo bracket is not silver. They are black like the ones above.
