Hey Guys,

Only joined here recently, im an Aussie but living in Japan.

I have an Evo 5 here thats reasonably modified:
HKS F-Con V Pro Stand Alone ECU
HKS Electronic Boost Controller
HKS Boost Gauge
Greddy Oil Temp + Water Temp Gauges
HKS Blow off Valve
HKS Intake
Full Alloy Intercooler Piping Turbo
Fujitsubo 3” Catback Exhaust
HKS Adjustable Coiliovers All Round
Strut Tower Braces Front and Rear

I'm wanting to ditch the AYC in the near future as I know they are the weakest link, being in Japan I can get a hold of diffs by the many! what I would like to know is what other components need to be changed as well. I have checked the other threads but there is nothing specific and I think it would be useful to people if they could look here and easily identify what they need.

Also, as I live in Japan, I can supply anyone with any part they could ever dream of at much better prices than you can buy anywhere else, so if you would be genuinely seeking parts I would be more than happy to assist with supply, I am looking at kicking off a parts exports business in the near future both used and new parts.

If somebody could take the time to identify exactly what would need to be changed in the rear end to convert to an RS LSD it would be greatly appreciated.

Look forward to your replies.

Hi how are you? I remember a member had this done on his e5. I'll suss it out but from memory he supplied a cusco 1.5 way lsd new in box.

As for a direct parts supply, great idea. If your prices are better than green line and nengun, you should make plenty of sales. As for used parts, vr4 and evo1-3 parts are getting harder to find down here! Especially aftermarket stuff...

hey mate,

thanks for looking into it for me, much appreciated.

yeah my parts would be cheaper than nengun and greenline thats for sure, as i have no overheads.

So if you know anyone who needs something and needs it reasonably fast, I could potentially source and ship within a week pending avaliability of the item, pretty keen to get something off the ground in parts supply.

Whats the deal with the later model AYC diffs? what is the latest model that can be used? eg. e7, e8, e9? do you need the ecu also?

bucket loads of ayc diffs over here! and there cheap too!

Yes the AYC is a weak link in an EVO but generally is only a concern if have a competition car or a street car pushing close to 300kw, generally it is not the diff itself but the housing which is prone to failing. Most competition cars (mine included) just remove the entire assembly and replace it with a complete RS mechanical rear end.

Once an RS diff is fitted then the transmission becomes the weak link....and on and on it goes!

If you aren't racing your car or pushing huge amounts of power I would recommend you keep the AYC, with regular servicing it should be fine, plus the AYC unit is much more suited to a street car than a mechanical diff.

*EDIT- I just clicked to who you are! out of interest did you ever live in Tasmania?

nope never lived in tassie ha-ha

the car will have some larger plans for life in the future, therefore concerns about the diff...

AYC diffs are very cheap in japan and I guess disposable haha but its the inconvenience if one ought to break...

anyone used a cusco centre?

anyone used a cusco centre?
Yes and i do have a Cusco centre for sale for 600 bucks plus postage if your intrested??

I found the centre awersome changed the character of the car heaps but the casing still ended up being the weak point as i busted the crown wheel and the extra bits had no where else to go but out the side.
Value for money though its a good modification...

thanks for the info and offer guys.

at this stage i am going to see how long the ayc diff lasts, i went for a spirited run up the mountains on the weekend in japan and it held up quite well. the one in my vr4 i had a few years back moaned and groaned whenever being driven hard through hairpins etc, but this was overall quite good.

has anybody fitted an oilcooler to the ayc lines?

anybody tried to reinforce the diff housing? its a shame hks or the like dont make something...
