Ive been keeping a keen eye on people that have put evo 6+ intercoolers on their vr4''s but they all seem to be aus specs.
http://www.galantvr4.org.au/public/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=10849&p=94897#p94897

Has anyone done it to a Jap spec with the different front bar? Or doesnt effect it? Aus spec dont have the oil cooler do they?

From what i gather this is what needs to be done....

*It looks like some reinforcement steel needs to be cut to make it fit which id rather not do. As it can cause problems with defects, correct?

*My oil cooler is also going to be in the way as it sits on an angle out from the radiator (must be to allow flow around it to the radiator but i could bend that closer to the radiator and should be fine. I plan to run a radiator deflector so that should help out.

*Modify the bracket the holds the bonnet latch. What is done? And how did you reinforcement it after.

*The fan in front of the radiator needs to be removed and a slim line put in front of the turbo next to the other stock fan.

Basically i plan to run around 20psi on a 20g sized turbo and 272 cams. So will a j-spec cooler with 2.5 inch pipes welded on do the job. Even if it flows better with the end tanks modified, would it still be efficient?

Here are some shots of mine Gerard , it's from a 7.
Clears the bottom of the RS bar, just!

yer your most likely have to move the oil cooler or tilt it back a tad, the bonnet latch bracket has to be remade thinner then original or out of solid round bar, and the end tanks may have to be modded to suit your turbo app......

AWESOME thanks guys pics tell a thousand words!

So, it doesn't sit in the stock position. From what i can see the stock cooler can go up any further as its at the top of the front bumper already...

Whats did you guys do with the fan that sits in front of the radiator on the passenger side, or isn't that a problem?

Or is the rs front far a lot lower so covers it up?

P.S Brisvr4, i love what you used to block off the bov plumb back pipe on your intake. I used the same thing funnily enough!

the top of the cooler literaly touches the under side of the bumper, it cant go any higher but it does clear everything including ground height clearance and should be as low as the stock Jspec bump.....

custom mounts welded to the cooler to make it easy for installation, you could keep the stock bonnet latch brace and cut it up, but it becomes to weak....

other wise you should be fine, custom cooler pipes etc.... and your pritty much set.....

I been searching heaps and heaps to see if there is a height difference between the evo intercoolers.

The evo 8 intercoolers are about 290-300mm tall depending who you believe. So even 2cm shorter would make it fit perfect in the stock position and not hang down, without having to move it back and modify so much.

I tried downloading the workshop manuals off evo oz but i cant open them for some reason. They migh have the intercooler dimensions.

I done a massive google and forum whore and it looks like its more the ends tanks and angle of the outlets that have changed.

I wonder if the evo 4 or 5 coolers are slightly smaller? The evo 6 items apparently have a few more air channels than the 5 but i couldn't find if the height changed or the size of the channels.

Any reason an evo 1-3 cooler wont fit?
Might be a bit easier to bolt up as id assume they aren't as high as the later evo ones.

I have an EVO V one in mine, J-spec bumper.
Whats was required to make it fit for you. And does it stick out the bottom. I basically want to avoid cutting stuff. or it sticking out the bottom.

While im at it here some dimensions i found on mmc.org.nz. I guess don't take it as gospel but it seemed to be the most accurate i could find.

Intercooler Dimensions:

evo 1-3 intercooler:
256.2x470x65mm

evo 4-5 intercooler:
294x470x65mm

evo 6 intercooler:
289.5x470x70mm

evo 7 intercooler:
310?x470x70mm
Im Pretty sure evo 7 isnt 310 wide, so this probably wrong.

VR4 intercooler, core only.
205 x 420 x 65mm (HxLxD)
pipes? ~47mm or 1 7/8" I think
