How does this system work?
I understand that the intake cam wheel is a bit like a wankel engine and that oil pressure on either side of the chamber advances or retards cam timing.
I assume that as the solonoid is only 1 piece and the ecu output is a pwm then the +5v would direct oil to advance the cam and the 0v of the square wave would direct oil to retard the cam. To complete the feedback loop is a cps to inform the ecu of its position and if any changes are needed at the solonoid position.

How does the oil get directed into the correct chambers of the mivec gear?
Any pics?

Anyone have a mivec gear or solonoid for sale. Broken or not?

fairly easy bro...

The final cam "bearing cap" closest to the cam gear has extra ports besides just supplying it oil. The cam it self has corresponding grooves with the supply ports..

No worries,

I asked the same questions you did, while I was doing the head conversion...

i wanted to run 272/264 cam, but measured the clearance from valve to piston, and they wont clear my set up....

So you run an evo 9 intake as an in intake on a 1-3? What about the different ramp rates ground into the cam to fix the offset rocker geometry? Its very noticeable to feel when running your finger over big cam profiles. Iv run a few evo 8 cams in evo 1 2 3 and we had to swap the intake and exhaust cams around to suit opposite rocker arrangement.

Nah, I run a EVO7 head on a VR4 engine, so i don't have to swap anything around. i'm not actually MIVEC but a hybrid of the 1st gen and 3rd gen engines..

you can get someone to cut the CAS groove into the cam for the correct set up for a evo4-8 cam into a vr4-evo3

Thats right I forgot.
I did my first one with re cut CAS grove on the intake cam and kiggly mentioned the ramp rates are wrong when you do it like that. Because of the change in geometry it only works if you swap the cams from intake to exhaust.
