EVO Information

Reading over this post, I've found that people have misunderstand the evo model.

ALL evo from Evo 1 -9 (Except 7.5 GT-A) they came with two version either RS or GSR.
* RS (RALLY SPEC) No Power Window, No A/C, etc Lighter Version
* GSR (Luxury Version) Comes with all the goodies

* GT (Only available to EVO 9) Tuned for everyday driving, so suspension is not as stiff.

Evo 8MR is a more refine version of the EVO 8. In another name you can call it EVO 8.5.
Just like the EVO 6 Tommy Makkinen Edition, it is call the EVO 6.5.

I hate to say this but...

Wrong.

Look at the USDM or JDM.

Evo's from 7+ come in RS, GSR and MR.

RS = Lightweight, usually same power etc sometimes without extra gadgets.

GSR = Standard Production model

MR = Luxury features plus beefed engine + extras.

MR Stands for Mitsubishi Racing, just FYI.

Other cars to follow this pattern include Z16A GTO's which have VR-4 MR editions and VR-4 Editions. And so on.

also from the 8 onwards the RS came in several diffrent options, just to add to the confusion.. ie. gravel/ tarmac specs (twin spots or brembos) or the 6spd, or 5spd etc..

It's ok, I believe everyone had their own opinion and I respect that but i based my fact from Evo catalogue. I collect the original JDM catalogue Evo 1-9, from Mitsubishi Japanese Dealer. Please go to

www.lancerevoclub.com

This website also provide the Genuine JDM Evo Catalogue from EVO 1-9. Also, I forgot to mention, that this topic only apply to JDM, because most of the evo in Australia either JDM or AusDM.

So please, browse the evo catalogue and see it for your self, it should be the following:
EVO 1: GSR & RS
EVO 2: GSR & RS
EVO 3: GSR & RS
EVO 4: GSR & RS
EVO 5: GSR & RS
EVO 6: GSR & RS
EVO 6.5 (Also call the Evo 6 TME) : GSR & RS
EVO 7: GSR & RS
EVO 7 GTA (Only 1 Model with several optional) (Auto Version)
EVO 8: GSR & RS
EVO 8.5 (Also call the EVO 8MR): GSR & RS
EVO 9: GSR, GT & RS

EVO 9MR (ONLY USDM, not available in JAPAN)

However as I attend 2006 Tokyo Auto Salon recently, the Ralliart Team mention that they will soon release EVO 9.5, but it WON''T Be Call EVO 9MR. The name is not yet confirmed, but it will also be available in GSR, GT & RS. (LAST EVO)

"THIS TOPIC IS ONLY JDM" (EXCLUDE USDM, British Market:"British has various evo model such as the FQ400 and so on")

Also I forgot to mention: RS is like built your own EVO, So it have quite a lot of optional. Please see the catalogue in www.lancerevoclub.com for more details.

So what I'm trying to point is that there is No such thing that MR is a luxury model:
MR is a SERIES 2 EVO8 (Call the EVO8.5) It came in two model GSR & RS. It has minor upgrade with such as headlight, suspension, AYC & ACD, more refine chasis, etc. Please refer to genuine JDM evo catalogue from www.lancerevoclub.com for more details.

Sorry people, I'm not trying to be smart arse, I just want to share a true reference for all the EVO FAN out there. Cheers! "EVO FOREVER"

Also for contribution for all the EVO FAN out there, The Japanese RALLIART Team gave me a special edition EVO history book, which is not for sale. The book is 170 pages, it contain the entire EVO1-9 information, it also cover some history model such as:
1970~ GALANT GTO
1980~ Lancer EX TURBO
1980~ Starion
1990~ VR4

I wanted to share this for all the EVO fan out there, so please PM, me if someone willing to scan it and upload it to TEAM4G website. I'll be happy to lend the book.

Just to add to the confusion, there is also the Jackie Chan Evo 9 edition. Yes! That's right, i couldn't believe it myself!

I'll post up the link once i found it again.

Acd problems are caused by poeple who shouldnot be replacing clutches on these cars or dont use the correct oil.
And also dont bleed the pump.
We are starting to repair the acd,s on sevens and slowly as more guys start to use us they will get cheaper to maintain and fix just like the earlier cars.

Im planning to get a 7 aswell mate, not sure if im gonna import or buy one in Aus already.
Ive seen evo7s for as cheap as $27k over here.
