Good question, as I'd like to know as well... I have a feeling my alternator is going to die one of these days with all the dirt and shit that gets run into it.

i was thinking vr4 galant used the same alternator as 1-3 unsure but
if your worried about your alternator everyonce and a while get your multimeter our and check when the cars running what volts the battery is running should be around13.6-14.3volts that is what is called alternating charge rate anything below or higher means the alternator is rooted. and needs replacing and in personal oppiniong id only ever replace an alternator with a new or rebuilt part
ive seen a second hand alternator fitted to a car and overcharge the battery
and because it was overcharging the battery couldn't keep up and in which the battery exploded because of the gases in the battery not being able too keep up with being overcharged
