Evo box on vr4 block - bolt on??

4GTuner

Help Support 4GTuner:

yes.. i think they run the same sandwhich plate so thats a yes.. HOWEVER ur going to have a custom cross member OR put the vr4 casing onto the evo box so u can bolt it up.. (the box is bolted up by 3 mounts, vr4 factory is only 1.)

Is the upper mount the same as the VR4?
So could I get away with not using the front and rear?

yes im pretty sure they are..
i wouldnt recommend running it with only 2 mounts? ie motor and gearbox.. u need to support it so it doesnt rock... maybe make a custom gearbox crossover? or.. use the vr4 box housing with evo internals?..

Baz, yes of course, the Evo and GSR gearboxes mount to the 6 bolt block.
I know theres a few dramas when trying to mount a VR4 gearbox in a CC Lancer, but I always thought a CC Lancer EVO/GSR gearbox in a VR4 would fit no problem as long as you remove the bolt-on bellhousing mounts off the GSR/EVO bellhousing.
Just to confirm, VR4 setups have a mount on the back of the gearbox (1), front timing belt (2), and front and rear of the engine block (3&4). You're not changing any of those by using a GSR/EVO gearbox are you?
If there's something in the way if using a GSR/EVO bellhousing on the EVO gearbox, I wonder if you could just put a VR4 bellhousing on the Evo gearbox anyway?

I do recall reading somewhere that you need to use the Evo sandwich plate otherwise the starter doesn't engage? Or I could just be getting old and forgetful!

no prob mate straiht in vr4 has 3 mounts on the engine so u only need the one mount on the box top one i have it like this in my race car

here is the best pic of a evo mount I could get
