Here's three pics to compare the EVO I-III 7bolt crankshaft journals vs the Galant VR4 6bolt crankshaft journals (one pic). [Look at pic name for description].
Notice the extra oil galleries in the 7bolt block.
Also notice how the ACL Race bearings, and most other bearings for that matter, align into the EVO's centre bearing position.
The 7 bolt centre bearing has 2 holes in it which both align with the oil gallery. The big hole in the centre bearing doesn't align with the big hole in the block's oil gallery.

I was thinking about this more in regards to crank walk. I believe that oil squirters jamming open are a cause of this.

Now that we see the extra oil grooves on the 7 bolt that are all feed from the same main gallery as the oil squirters, Im thinking the same amount of oil (and pressure) has a lot more mouths to feed in a 7 bolt compred to a 6 bolt...............just sayin

thoughts?

Thats what I thought.

I cant see the second hole in the centre main on the second pic. But I think the 2nd hole may be to feed the back bearing on the balance shaft. So the groove is there to allow oil flow behind the bearing. And the oil hole is offset to ensure some of the oil diverts to the balance shaft.

But I have been wrong before.

Good video you may have already seen. Gives a good description of some of the differences between 6 & 7 bolt.

That's a great video, but the 2G US version of the 7-bolt engine block is different to the way the EVO 7-bolt engine block when it comes to the oil squirters.
Will have to save the vid and watch it at a later time with the oil filter housing vid (which is 30 mins odd itself) to get schooled on the subject manno to manno.

Doh!! Just when I thought I understood! It can be a bit of a minefield for a newbie, these subtle differences between the 4G motors. You really need to have a full handle of whats going on, get an oil gallery decision wrong and it'll cost you heaps.

During this build (my first), I remember sitting on the JNZ website staring blankly at the screen mumbling something about 'Brian never said it would be like this'. I did a balance shaft delete and studied about three of that guy's videos to make sure I had a better understanding of what actual changes I was making to the oil system. Still don't fully know whats going on now, but at least I gave myself a half decent chance to get it right.
