Hey boys

new to this forum, im after a geni evo III in melbourne but all they seem to be GSRs or evo I with evo III kit engine tranny etcc etcc

i dont know s**t about evos, eg engine numbers <-- wat these mean (eg SR20DET sr, 2ltr electronic fuel injcect, turbo) and also just would like to know which engines came on which car eg evo III opposed to a gsr

is it really not worth buying a 4x4 evo III mockup?

thanks in advance

eMz

someone just posted a similar question.. and the answer is .. good luck finding a genuine evo 3.. and if you do expect to pay top dollar..

gsr's come with a 1.8L engine (4G93) where as the evo's come with the bigger 2.0L (4G63)

you will come across with gsr's with vr4 or evo conversions.. vr4 motors are almost identical to the evo engines (4G63) but there are some changed in internals, etc..

your best bet would be to get a gsr with a 4G63 conversion done to it.. they will run almost just as well as an evo but with the fraction of the price..

so to answer your question.. yes it will be worth buying a gsr with the evo conversion in it.. as long as its not some gli 1.6L carby with an evo 3 kit..

There are so many advantages of getting an evo.. they are a factory made race car.. im not going to list the differences because there are soo many but if you find a car that you like post the details of it..

Basically if yuo find a car you like. Get the engine number and turbo number off the car and post it on this site.

Someone will be able to tell you what it is.

Prehaps if you put your location in your profile, the guys could help you more in the future to find one for you

 Surprised no one mentioned anything about the chassis numbers located on the firewall next to the wiper motor yet :p That IS your first point of call over anything else and is a dead giveaway for what the car is as everything else can be bolted in

CD5A - Mitsubishi GSR Lancer 1.8 Turbo
CD9A - Mitsubishi Lancer EVO I
CE9A - Mitsubishi Lancer EVO II
CE9A - Mitsubishi Lancer EVO III

You will notice the E2 and E3 have same chassis number, then all you have to do is check the year of manufacture. EVO 2 were 1993 and 1994, and EVO 3 were introduced in 1995.

Other bolt on ways to check
The turbo number on the compressor housing (silver side). Look at the really long number starting with 49178-014x0. The 2nd last digit 'x' is stamped onto the compressor housing. If its a 7, then its a big 16G EVO 3 turbo, if its a 6, then its a small 16G turbo from a EVO 2. This doesnt stop anyone from changing to a big 16G on an EVO 2 engine though.

Also I think the EVO 3 has 2 x intercooler spray nozzles up front whereas the others only have 1. Again, bolt ons can be added onto an EVO 2 to make it look like an EVO 3.

Umm inside fog lights as well I think from memory next to the driver's vent. They are usually blank hard plastic things in everything else but actual switches in an EVO 3 for front and rear fog lamps.

Was gonna mention the X brace behind the rear seat but have known people to actually weld them into GSR's to make them look like real EVO's

Just to add

CD5A - Mitsubishi GSR Lancer 1.8 Turbo
CD9A - Mitsubishi Lancer EVO I
CE9A00***** - Mitsubishi Lancer EVO II
CE9A01***** - Mitsubishi Lancer EVO III

The first numbers on the CE9A indicate evo 2 and 3, as evo 2's did go into 95 also.

Also to note, RS model EVO's did not come with the rear aerial, or rear window wiper. So some people mistakenly dismiss a genuine evo as a mock up, when in fact they are RS models.

its registered in qld not race/rally registered
its a personal import

If its the one Im thinking of (has been forn sale for a while), its registered through the Vic loophole.

Not a yellow plate.

There was a discussion somewhere (on GSR/EVO maybe) when he first put it up for sale.

 Thats why i said it in the first place...I did my research on it ages ago when it was first advertised...NOT a yellow plate. :( Done through Vicroads scheme.

But very Nice anyway!

Location in profile please Benny :) (yes i know its Newy but still...)

awsome stuff thanks guys

sorry its been a while since i posted, had a motobike accident - got hit head on by a slut of cunt of a girl, now i cant walk for 7 months

/end rant

so gives me ALOT of time to figure this thing out.

id love to come on a cruise when/if i get a gsr..

neways heres my delema... help me out

i know ALOT of machanics - my uncle has got his own shop, my very good mates all have their own workshops.. cheap as labour

dads good mates are car sparkies/panel beaters etc etc

my best mate imports all kind of cars parts from jap (n also r32s, s13, sileight etc etc) so turbos, internals, kits, coolers/piping, n stuff i can get for fuck all

So im thinking, get a stock/slightly rice modded 1.8Gsr turbo (4x4 right?), get a hold of a vr4 or evo 3 engine (easily done? how much?)

drive around in the 1.8, work on the 2ltr, bump the 2ltr in and yay! later get kit rims ect

OR

just get one that already been converted/worked..

how much would each option cost (minus labour n assuming stock/no engine mods) roughly?

Lots of q's thanks in advance guys

just get one thats already been converted and save yourself the money and more importantly, the headfucks :?

The fun is in the modification - I say buy the GSR and do the conversion. You'll learn so much about your car and best of all you can say you did it yourself...

till u fVck something up....and getting all the headaches to go with it till it runs all sweet and well...

if u dont mind the headaches and not having the car for long periods of time in a workshop then its all good.

you can always learn about your car other ways =)
