Hi Guys,

I'm currently running an EVO IV Autronic ECU in my Galant.
I'm now upgrading to an EVO IX Autronic ECU.

Reason - more inputs and outputs. Was offered for a good price!

The existing EVO IV ECU is great. Can't fault it.

But now I can do things like:
* PWM radiator fan control (via SSR).
* Independent cylinder knock control
* Ethanol flex fuel sensor

This is simply due to having more available inputs.

I thought I'd share my process since I haven't written anything in quite some time.

So far I have:
1. Old twin board ECU - which I used for the case and connector (on the Galant loom end)
2. EVO IX Autronic ECU - which I will install inside the Galant ECU case
3. Late model Mitsu Magna ECU plugs - to use on the EVO IX ECU end
4. Autronic air temp sensor (already in car)
5. EVO IX knock sensor (genuine from Mitsu) - to put on the 6bolt block for knock control
6. EVO 8 Solid state relay (genuine from Mitsu) - to use for my radiator fan control (not on off but instead gradual).
7. Sard 800cc injectors - Won't be running e85. Maybe e10 only.

I'll keep you all updated!

Dual board vs EVO IX ECU.

I was too lazy to desolder. So I decided to pull out the grinder.

The Magna loom was cut with sufficient length.
Now I just need to solder onto the GVR4 plug.
Any unused wires I'll probably use for other things in the engine bay (add ons).

Dont forget:
Dual speed fuel pump- so you dont overrun your fpr at idle,
Altenator control- dont need the drag of a altenator when full throttle,
A pwm output that was for the mivec, now free.
Fuel tank temp input- now free.

There is a few others also.

What is the tech on individual knock? Id like to read more on that.

I witnessed an sr20 make an extra 20kws at the wheels with the knock board.

How? Because it doesn't stop you from advancing cylinders that are not detonating. Allows those cylinders to continue to make power while only retarding the cylinder that is knocking.

OK so this is now in progress. The EVO IX ECU has so many extra inputs and outputs than the original SM4.
I've thought about using the SM4 that is in the VR4 on the AMG and putting the EVO IX SM4 into the VR4.

Extra analogue inputs, extra outputs and High Speed Inputs also.

But decided a street car could probably make more use of the inputs/outputs etc.

So, the loom is in progress. I should be able to fire it up very soon.
i'll get some photos of it shortly.

I'll be using an NGK AFX wbo2 sensor.
Still running waste spark for now. I could go to 4 channel ignition but will need to run new wires etc.
I also have COP i could use but probably not really worth it on a street car.
The auto is the delay at the moment as I have to run a plug to share some signals between the ECU and the AUTO TCU.
This includes
1. TPS
2. Speed
3. RPM
4. Power
5. Gnd
6. Water tem
7. Start motor
8. MPI relay

I think thats it.
Photos to come.

Thanks for the offer. What did you do with the power steering switch?

Also any idea how the late model fan relay works? With the pwm fan speed controller. I've disabled this on the Autronic.

Also any idea on what the alternator g function is on the stock evo ecu?

I'll have to double check my pin outs but I'm pretty sure there is a power steering switch on both ecus

And for the late model fans you can either wire in the module from the later cars or just run the thermos off the ac fan, I've hooked the rad fans to ac stuff as per what every ecu swap I've seen on the net had done.

And the alt g thing I just left out, I think it's to do with ecu controlled alternator adjustment or something, I think jack knows about that one

Oh I forgot you were doing this into a galant so the pin out might not be the same as gsr/Evo.

I just checked my pin out

Pin 54 on the mr ecu is pas switch which goes to pin 37 on the gsr loom

The early Evo pin out has no alt g so I just left that pin out of the plug on the me ecu

And the fan relays

Pin 11 on mr goes to pin 18 on gsr
Pin 20 on mr goes to pin 22 on gsr
Pin 30 on mr goes to pin 16 on gsr
Pin 31 on mr goes to pin 3 on gsr

You will just have to cross check these with the 9 and galant pin outs

Vr401 helped me with this and tested my Evo and patch loom in an rvr of his.
