Early EVO gearbox internals arent really that hard to get at the moment, you just need to get the right part numbers and order them through Mitsubishi or a gearbox specialist.
Problem is, they are expensive!! If you know whats shit in your gearbox, then just replace what you need.
You also have to be careful what you try to mix and match with DSM, VR4, GSR, RVR and EVO I, EVO II, EVO III gearboxes because not everything is interchangeable and you could kill the box or find out it wont shift and mesh well until its too late and it fails. Im not just talking about the clusters, there's also hib sizes, shift rails, shift forks, reverse idler arms, centre diffs, crownwheel/output pinion and others that arent interchangeable.
You could try to see what sort of deal the US boys will give you if you dont supply a gearbox in exchange for a built one, also see how much freight is to Australia + GST + Tariffs and other taxes. Would be good to know for members in future.
But 'dropping in clusters' and 'changing shafts' when the bellhousing is still mounted horizontally on the engine block rolls off the toungue easy but it would be extremely frustrating and difficult to by one person without the risk of things falling off or just not sitting right for assembly, playing around with keeping things straight, holding them in place etc. It'll be something I'd pay $100 for a ticket to watch, plus sit down to eat popcorn to heckle at lol
Best thing to do is find yourself a gearbox specialist who knows EVO boxes and get them to rebuild it. In Sydney you have 3 names that come to mind immediately... Meek, Vince Rigoli and MRT. You could even try Carlos at Sportsclassic if he's still around?
