Hi guy's well I'm looking to upgrade (Some people say it's a down grade from a EVO III) to a 2001 EVO 7 lancer in the next month or so, what are your thoughts on the car/shape/engine/drive line ect.
Any problems they had with this new shape.
I know that the EVO 3 has a VERY strong drive-line (Some have run mid 10's on them) but how strong is it on the 7?

I 100% LOVE the EVO III, BUT looking for a nice new(ish) car & cant keep both, Trust me I would if I could !!!
So tell me of what you think of it or if you have one OR know of anyone that has owned a E7 post up!!!!
They are the 1st car with the Super AYC and is 50% stiffer than the VI.

But when I 1st seen the VII I HATED it, Just so long & no fatness, has a flat bonnet ect, the dash is more "Business Like" & has NO Dig climate cont, just little things like that sort of put me off.
But now after looking at one for a while it's starting to grow on me and now they are getting cheap to import under SEVS.

Cheers.
:)

I wouldnt buy a 7........ first evo on CT platform = lots of little things that eventually get ironed out in the 8 and 9. Makes sense if you think about it.

i would consider an 8

would definitely get an 8 MR

and would definitely get a 9

it all comes down to cash. 8)

keep the 3!!! until you can afford both!!! :D

Yeah, looks like that's what I'm going to do......I just cant seem to part with it after thinking about it for a while.
Was the best Rally car IMHO, the results speak for them self.
& would be a better power/weight package than the 7 also.

Shot gun!!!!!!!!

Keep the 3 Lee, Id personally go for the TME 6.5 over the 7, I heard the other day i cant remember who or where, but someone needed to replace a diff in a later model Evo, it cost them a mint due to the AYC.

But if you do decide to part with the E3, SHOTGUN!!!! 1st look. as i now own my E1 outright.

Just joking.Do whats within your means.

You own an EVO 3 The best evo!!!
u should be able to sell it and get good money for it......

But as for a 7,good luck getting shit from the wreckers for it,good luck getting anything for it other than over the service desk at mitsubishi dude.

Drive a racecar........have a Racecar budget, old man told me that,I'll never forget it.

The 6.5 has AYC as well and will probably be MORE expensive to repair than a 7 due to the way they are treated. 6.5's were built by people with heavy right feet for people with heavy right feet, as such they will be treated as such. That and the 7 looks better.

Time has shown that the 7 has no spectacular or even regular faults. The car was released 5 years ago and seems to be holding up very well.

As for the 8 MR and 9, the 9 is just an 8 with the 8 scratched out and 9 written there. They are otherwise the same car with variable cam timing and some minor cosmetic bullshit.

The 6 speed gearbox is SIGNIFICANTLY weaker than the 5 speed gearbox. On that note alone and due to the way that I treat my cars I wouldn't even look at a 6 speed one.

The 3 is a great car, but they're all ageing and for reliability alone the 7 would be a viable option. The 3 will begin to break in major ways soon. As it's had it's 10th birthday even if it was the last year of production.

Thanks for all the info mate :)
Looks like it's rebuild time for me now anyway, got stuck in flood water on the weekend & the police & SES said that would be "Safe" to cross.
Well long story cut short my engine drank some water & now the engine has a funny rattle sound & the engine is low on compression 130psi (Still runs fine) from 190psi, getting quotes for the insurance comp to see if they will pay for the damage.
If not...dont know of anyone in the market for a E3 with a not so good engine going cheap do you? :(
