I am wanting an LSD in the rear of my gsr and have found one at what I think is a good price, what I'm wanting to know is:

what's the difference between a viscous LSD and mechanical LSD,

and from what I've read people prefer the mechanical, is there something wrong with the viscous type?

I read something about needing different rear shafts to use a viscous, is this true?

The one I've found is viscous but it's only going on my gsr which is a street car which will see some track time eventually so would it be suitable for this?

Thanks all :)

a viscous lsd used the thickness of the oil and a series of plates like clutches to regulate how much each wheel can slip independently of the other and how fast one wheel can go than the other.

as long as it is in good nick...a viscous is fine for street, tarmac rally, drag and some light circuit. However lap after lap hard of use will over heat the viscous fluid and eventually warping the plates.
