Hi there,

Looks like my cc gsr needs a new clutch, apparantly hills runs and heli's reduce the lifespan of a clutch??? who would thought..

Anyway, after a bit of research it looks like I will be going a exedy heavy duty clutch kit (sports organic or something??). Seems like a fair few people have these in gsr's and ive driven a few other cars with one in and they seem heaps better than my current worn clutch. I was just wondering what prices people have paid for the clutch on its own and also what rough prices for fitting. Also if there are any other opinions on a better clutch, still a 4g93t with stock power, not looking at running mega numbers either, yet..

Thanks
Mat

There will literally be a few hundred bucks...max, between a dead standard replacement and something very good, if you can afford it, buy the best clutch you can...keep an organic sprung face...and dont go too heavy with the pressure plate etc...

Is that for driveability or for longevity of components?

abit of both,

an organic friction plate will be pretty good for around town though. its when you start going solid centre vs sprung and ceramic you can get the shudders on take up.

not going too heavy on the pressure plate assures you still keep the clutch as the fuse when you release the clutch too fast accidentally.

much better to replace a clutch than a gearbox/transfer case/diff/axle etc...

...unless you got spares :)

Good Points
Plus its been shown that heavy pressure plates place pretty big loads on the crank when depressed, which is not a good thing. A twin plate with lower clamping force is almost always a better option.

i got mine from northern brake and clutch on ebay for not a too bad price. though i went for the 5 puk brass button with 40% stonger pressure plate.

Not what your after.

i did how ever have a organic HD in before this one and it was ok to drive with but couldnt really handle the 200kws (slipped a few times) so decided to take it out. only had done 15 000kms. Was very driveable though.

Was this the Exedy HD, one up from stock?
I thought it would handle it.

Im in a similar dilema, i want a rock solid clutch too, but not one thats too heavy on the bottom end.

Hey Mat if it's any help I for $1,290 (inc gst) I got:

Exedy clutch - not the HD one though
(pressure plate, clutch plate, thrust bearing, machine flywheel)
Clutch fork + pivot ball
Fluids
Freeplay adjustment etc

i'm not 100% as i didnt put the old one in the car. All i know was that it was fine for all driving except the two launches i tried in the dry.

all other condishions it griped fine and was driveable as.
