I've seen this come up a few times with rebuilds. New/good turbo going on after a rebuild and either blowing white smoke, or in the case of a GT30 - seized. I've never rebuilt a motor but everything that I've heard/read/experienced in 3rd party is NEVER use a good/new turbo on a freshly rebuilt motor. Either run no turbo or a piece of shit turbo that you don't give a crap about because the swarf/dags/etc from the rebuild (no matter how much the rebuilder reassures you) will end up in the turbo oil lines and either block the feed or score the bearings.
Just because someone, even the rebuilder, tells you that it's OK doesn't mean jack nor does it leave them accountable. Mate had the GT30 die on him and he was still the one left with the $1100 rebuild bill with no leg to stand on other than the "word" of the rebuilders.
