Ok guys soon I think I'll be embarking on a longer term rebuild of my spare 4g93 block.

This block originally came from my coupe and as such is a sohc engine. I plan to put forged rods and perhaps pistons in it.

What I'm looking for is advice on the head cams and turbo. The motor will eventually end up in my coupe which is my daily drive so street use is going to be in its future. I'd like to aim for around 180kw atw.
Question 1 if I grab a dohc proton head and then use aftermarket cams. There should be no issue recycling the parts off my current gsr donk? I'm aware I will have to find or tap an oil feed

Question 2 what size cams will give a good street able drive yet net some decent power and quick spool of the turbo (not aiming to lift the rev limit)?

How much boost was thinking 15 - 20 psi?

Engine management?

I also had aspirations to do mivec turbo so if Ivan find a head before I'm ready to assemble Iay still take that route.

I would prefer not to field off just get a 4g63t responses I know they're Easyer to get power from but for me its just too different to what I already have.

Whoa back a bit.
Someone want through this before and there was pics.
The sohc block is missing a boss for one of the timing belt pulleys. So check it out before you start.

Afaik you cant use a single cam block for dohc...

yeah jack i've already check that i'm lucky mines got it! and it's tapped. back when that thread came up i went and checked my block as i was about to move and if it wasn't going to be suitable for a dohc i was going to bin it. panning on carrying my td05 16g accross

your right jack, that was my thread, was just gonna say the sohc is missing a threaded hole for the timing pulley :/

i was thinking about cutting a bit of plate with a threaded boss welded to it and then welding that in place but not sure if its worth it?

I had my stock cams reground to a low lift 272 by kelfords, they didn't cost much but power and torque did drop off hard after about 6600rpm.

for the head situation, its piss easy to drill through the head (4in) for an oil feed. BUT proton have smaller ports than gsr heads, while the small ports will give great torque, the large ports give more top end under big boost...
